Union minister V K Singh inaugurates G20 meeting of agri chief scientists

Union minister V K Singh on Monday inaugurated the G20 Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) here. MACS is the 100th G20 meeting during India's G20 presidency. The minister of state for civil aviation, road transport and highways said India's G20 presidency theme 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' signifies collective efforts for achieving SDGs and the theme of MACS, "sustainable agriculture and food system for healthy people and plant", resonates the emphasis put forth in the theme. Singh said that bio-fortified crop varieties are the quicker solution to improve health and address nutrition issues of women and children. India holds 100th G20 meeting under its presidency of bloc, says MEA

India celebrated a key milestone in its G20 presidency on Monday with the hosting of the 100th meeting of the grouping, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. The Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) in Varanasi is the 100th meeting of the grouping under India's presidency that began on December 1 last year. The second Health Working Group in Goa, the 2nd Digital Economy Working Group in Hyderabad and the Space Economy Leaders' Precursor Meeting in Shillong are also being held on Monday, according to the MEA. India's G20 presidency will continue till November 30. The Group of Twenty (G20) comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Trkiye, United Kingdom, and United States) and the European Union. Goa to test G20 delegates showing Covid-19 symptoms amid rise in cases

Delegates arriving in Goa for a G20 summit next week will be tested for COVID-19 if they show symptoms of coronavirus infection, an official said on Friday. The state's Directorate of Health Services (DHS) has decided to start antigen testing at the Goa International Airport, Dabolim, and the Manohar International Airport, Mopa, for the G20 delegates who would be arriving in the state, he said. India currently holds the Presidency of the G20, or Group of Twenty an inter-governmental forum of the world's 20 major developed and developing economies. The first of the eight scheduled G20 meetings in Goa will be held from April 17-20. Dr Kedar Raikar, officer on special duty (health), told reporters that although COVID-19 testing is not mandatory, it will be done as a precautionary step for the delegates coming for the G20 summit. G20 agrees that debt restructuring must be speedily dispensed with: FM

Debt restructuring and resolution are urgent issues for many low and middle income nations, and the G20 agrees that these matters must be speedily dispensed with, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said. She told a press conference here on Thursday that discussions of G20 countries and multiple stakeholders on these issues on the sidelines of the annual spring meeting of the IMF and the World Bank were to ensure that resolution for countries in debt should happen in time. Representatives of some of the countries facing debt such as Sri Lanka, Zambia, Ghana and Ethiopia were present for the discussions. The finance minister said the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable, held on Wednesday, has also brought in a certain avenue for people to talk about how they will have to work towards addressing debt distress and amid an emerging global debt landscape, Sitharaman said. G20 consensus that regulations on crypto assets has to be global: FM

Members of the G20 agree that a globally coordinated understanding would be required not only to deal with the challenges posed by crypto assets but also to regulate them, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said. The grouping has responded to the issue with alacrity and during India's presidency of the G20, a "synthesis paper" will be taken up on matters related to crypto assets, the minister told a press conference here on Thursday. "I am glad to say that there is a greater acceptance among all G20 members, that any action on crypto assets will have to be global," Sitharaman and added that "the G20, I think, has responded fairly with alacrity (on the crypto challenge)," she said. India on Thursday was non-committal on participation of Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G20 summit in September, days after Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova said that he will be happy to address it. In an address at a think-tank in Delhi, Dzhaparova on Tuesday said Zelenskyy would be happy to speak at the summit just like he did during the Bali summit of the grouping last November.
