Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday announced a Rs 10 per quintal hike in sugarcane price, raising the crop's rate to Rs 372 a quintal. The new price will come into force from the current crushing season. Khattar said that safeguarding the interest of farmers is the utmost priority of the state government. "I urge the farmers that the prices have been hiked and now they should bring their sugarcane to the mills so the mills can run smoothly. Closure of sugar mills is neither in the interest of the farmers nor of the mills," he said. Crushing at sugar mills had recently come to a halt as protesting farmers had stopped supply of sugarcane by locking the main entrances of the fourteen mills in the state. The farmers had been demanding a hike in the sugarcane's state advised price from Rs 362 to Rs 450 per quintal. Haryana Police have beefed up security measures across the state in the run-up to Republic day. All commissioners and district superintendents of police have been directed to ensure elaborate security cover at all important venues for celebrations and flag-hoisting on Thursday, Director General of Police (DGP) PK Agrawal said. All roads leading to celebration venues are being monitored with 'nakas' and surprise checks. Additional forces have been deployed to deal with any untoward incident, he said on Tuesday. "Police officers have also been directed for making smooth traffic arrangements during the Republic Day celebrations, particularly routes leading to venues of functions," a statement quoted Agarwal as saying. Twelve lakh families have been added to the 'below poverty line' (BPL) category after Haryana government increased the annual income criteria for it, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Monday. Khattar also said that special camps would be organized at the district, block, and village levels to update the details of the families having the 'Parivar Pehchan Patra' (family ID card). He said that 'Parivar Pehchan Patra' (PPP) is the flagship scheme of the state government to ensure the reach of welfare schemes at the grassroot levels. The chief minister said that while taking care of the poor families, the state government had increased the annual income limit of BPL families from Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh. As a result, the number of BPL families has increased to about 29 lakh now, he told reporters here. The Sports portfolio which was given up by Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh following allegations of sexual harassment against him by a woman coach, will now be held by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Saturday allocated the portfolio of Sports and Youth Affairs to Khattar in addition to his existing portfolios with immediate effect, according to an official notification. The Haryana Cabinet on Thursday approved a new AatmaNirbhar Textile Policy 2022-25, which aims to attract investment worth Rs 4,000 crore and generate 20,0000 new jobs in the state. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the council of ministers held under the chairmanship of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar here, said an official statement. The new textile policy will supersede the previous Haryana Textile Policy 2019 and it aims to promote value-added textile activities with suitable policy interventions to harness the potential of the entire textile value chain in the state, it said. The estimated budget for the policy is Rs 1,500 crore with capping for capital incentive cases, it said. Tata Motors on Thursday said it has bagged an order for 1,000 buses from Haryana Roadways. The auto major said it will supply 52-seater fully built BS VI diesel buses in a phased manner, as per the contract. Haryana's Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Tuesday said 58.59 lakh metric tonne paddy has been procured in the state during the current season, exceeding the target of 57 lakh MT. Chautala said that nearly 98 per cent of farmers have already received their paddy purchase payment amounting to Rs 11,819 crore directly into their bank accounts through DBT within 48 hours after the crop being procured and the balance will also be cleared this week. The deputy chief minister -- who also holds the charge of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department -- said although the target given by the Centre was 57 lakh metric tonnes of paddy procurement for the current season, the state government procured 58.59 lakh metric tonnes till November 14, a day before procurement process is completed. Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Saturday said that 52 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured in the state and Rs 10,000 crore has been paid to the farmers so far as the payments are being made within 48 hours. Chautala reiterated the state government's commitment towards ensuring the welfare of the farmers and said the payment of crop procurement to the farmers has been directly transferred to their accounts within 48 hours. Haryana will develop the world's largest jungle safari park in the Aravalli range, the state government said in a statement on Thursday. The 10,000-acre safari park will cover Gurugram and Nuh districts. "This project will be the largest such project in the world," it said. At present, Sharjah is home to the largest curated safari park outside Africa. Opened in February 2022, the Sharjah Safari covers an area of about 2,000 acres. "The proposed Aravalli park would be five times more this size and it would include a large herpetarium (a zoological exhibition space for reptiles and amphibians), aviary/bird park, four zones for big cats, a large area for herbivores, an area for exotic animal birds, an underwater world, nature trails, visitors, tourism zones, botanical gardens, biomes, equatorial, tropical, coastal, desert, etc," the government said in the statement.
