In a move towards expanding people's access to healthcare in the national capital, the BJP-led Delhi government inked a MoU with the Centre on Saturday to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the city. The Ayushman Bharat scheme provides free and cashless treatment for 1,961 medical procedures across 27 specialities, covering the costs of medicines, diagnostic services, hospitalisation, ICU care, surgeries and more. The Supreme Court on Tuesday said if poor people are not provided free treatment at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital here, it will ask the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to take it over. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh took serious note of alleged violation of lease agreement under which the hospital run by Indraprastha Medical Corporation Limited (IMCL) was to provide free medical and other facilities to one-third of its indoor poor patients and 40 per cent of its outdoor patients without any discrimination.
