Slain BJP MLA Mandavi cremated at his village
Nine-year-old Khirendra Mandavi lit the funeral pyre of his father, BJP MLA Bheema Mandavi, at Gadapal village in the district Wednesday. Bheema Mandavi, who represented Dantewada seat in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, died alongwith four security personnel when their vehicle was blown up by Naxals near Shyamgiri in the district Tuesday. The attack came two days ahead of voting in the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency. In Dantewada town, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel paid homage to Mandavi and the four slain police jawans at the Police Lines where wreath-laying ceremony was held. Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu and Director General of Police D M Awasthi were among those who paid homage. Later, the MLA's mortal remains was taken to Gadapal, around 25 km from Dantewada town, for cremation. Facebook will no longer send you birthday reminders for a deceased friend
Facebook has had an option to turn a deceased person's profile into a memorial account. However, it continued to prompt friends of the person once a year, on the birthday. The slightly awkward and insensitive notification is about to change forever.In its official blog, Facebook detailed new updates to honour those who have passed away. These include a new tributes section for memorialised accounts; additional controls for people who manage memorialised accounts; and improved AI to keep the profile of a deceased loved one from appearing in painful ways.If an account has not been memorialised, Facebook uses AI to help keep it from showing up in places that might cause distress. For instance, recommending that person be invited to events, or sending birthday reminder to their friends.Facebook is now only allowing friends and family members to request to have an account memorialised.
CNS Admiral Sunil Lanba confers gallantry, non-gallantry awards on Navy personnel
Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Sunil Lanba conferred the gallantry and non-gallantry medals on various Navy personnel here on Wednesday at an Investiture Ceremony held at the naval helicopter base INS Shikra of Western Naval Command (WNC).The Chief of Naval Staff also awarded the citations to the Naval units which have distinguished themselves during the past year.Lanba conferred the awards on behalf of President of India Ram Nath Kovind.The awards were announced on the Republic Day this year. Woman calls 911 to find 'burglar' Roomba inside bathroom
Gadgets can be useful, and also scary sometimes. A woman in Washington County, Oregon, called up 911 claiming her home was being burgled. Guinness record created for largest traditional Konyak dance
An organisation of the Konyak Naga tribe has set a Guinness World Record for the "Largest Traditional Konyak Dance". The official communication in this regard was received from the Guinness World Records authorities on Tuesday night, Manlip Konyak, president of the Konyak Union, said Wednesday. A total of 4,687 Konyak Naga women in their colourful traditional attire had come together on April 5 in an attempt to create the record for the "Largest Traditional Konyak Dance". In their attempt, the Konyak women danced to the beats of traditional instruments and sang a ceremonial song for five minutes and one second, the organisers had said here. Konyak is one of the 16 Naga tribes and people of this community live mainly in the Mon district of Nagaland. The programme was organised at Mon during the Aoleang Monyu, an annual festival of the Konyak tribe to welcome the spring. S Africa's Zuma denies he has USD 30 mln of Kadhafi's cash
South Africa's ex-president Jacob Zuma has denied allegations by a local newspaper that he is in possession of USD 30 million (26.7 million euros) belonging to the late Libyan dictator Moamer Kadhafi. The Sunday Times at the weekend reported that before he was captured and killed in 2011, Kadhafi had given the funds for "safe keeping" to Zuma, when he was president of South Africa. The paper said Zuma had stashed the money at his home in the southeastern village of Nkandla before moving it to neighbouring eSwatini, formerly known as Swaziland. "Former president Zuma is not aware of any money directed to his Nkandla home from former president Gaddafi, nor has he ever received funds from Gaddafi," the ex-president's foundation said in a statement cited Wednesday by South Africa's The Star newspaper. Turkmenistan starts work on nameless 'new city'
Ex-Soviet Turkmenistan's strongman leader broke ground on a new and presently nameless city close to the capital Ashgabat Wednesday. Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said some 70,000 people will populate the new city. The fact that it has yet to be named is likely to lead to speculation that it will be named after Berdymukhamedov, who oversees a leadership cult that draws frequent comparisons with North Korea. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he had yet to see the full report drawn up by special prosecutor Robert Mueller into his election campaign's allegedly suspicious links to Russia. "I have not seen the Mueller report, I have not read the Mueller report," he said at the White House. The two-year probe into Trump caused huge controversy. According to a brief summary released by Trump's attorney general, Bill Barr, Mueller found no evidence of deliberate collusion between Trump and Russia. Special plans are being made to welcome the first child of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Officials said Wednesday that the landmark London Eye observation wheel on the banks of the River Thames will be lit in red, white and blue to mark the baby's birth. Those are the colors of the familiar Union Flag. The baby is expected in late April or early May. He or she will be seventh in line for the British throne. Danish queen to open new zoo enclosure for Chinese pandas
Denmark's Queen Margrethe is set to open Wednesday a new enclosure at Copenhagen zoo for two freshly arrived occupants: a pair of pandas on loan from China as the Scandinavian nation becomes part of Beijing's so-called "panda diplomacy." The Chinese Ambassador to Denmark, Deng Ying, called male Xing Er and female Mao Sun "national treasures of China and symbol of peace" when they arrived last week. Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary just three weeks before he abdicates his throne. The couple met at a 1957 tennis tournament remembered as a "love match." Akihito and Michiko Shoda married in 1959, making him Japan's first future emperor to wed a commoner and someone who was Catholic-educated. Both are among many changes he brought to Japan's 1,500-year-old monarchy. The couple also broke with tradition in choosing to raise their own children and in speaking more often to the public.
