All-rounder Shivam Dube on Saturday said that the IPL will play a vital role in the Indian team's preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in June in the West Indies and the USA. After the ODI World Cup last year, India has played only four T20Is, with two more fixtures in the format to go against Afghanistan before the global event in June. "It (IPL) would be equally important for all of us, as there are only two T20Is remaining. IPL is a big platform, and if you fare well in it, you get the chance to make it to the (national) team," Dube told reporters ahead of the second T20I against Afghanistan here. "There is a team planning and combination in place. The more we play T20s, the more we get to understand it better." While Dube also remains in contention to make it to the Indian side for the T20 World Cup, he said he is not looking too far ahead and is focused on the task at hand. "Any player playing in the team aims to play in the World Cup. It's definitely in my
Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals could be eyeing a foothold in English cricket as it's in "advanced talks" to buy stakes in county side Hampshire, according to a report. A report in the 'Daily Telegraph' said former Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove, who still holds majority share in the club, is close to agreeing a deal to sell the county side to GMR Group, the co-owners of Delhi Capitals. "Hampshire County Cricket Club's majority shareholder is in advanced talks to sell his stake to the part-owners of Indian Premier League team Delhi Capitals," the report said. If the deal comes to fruition, it will make Hampshire the first county side "to be owned by an overseas franchise", it said. The benefits of buying a county side for GMR could include a foothold in the English game, it added. With The Hundred franchise tournament in England gaining popularity, the deal could give GMR a "first-mover advantage", and also help the IPL franchise "develop its own players". The .

Shubam Dubey's life took a turn for the better when Rajasthan Royals acquired him for Rs 5.60 crore in the recent IPL player auction, and that sunny moment has washed away all those early turmoil in the Vidarbha man's life. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is unlikely to offer No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen Ul Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi for the next two years, putting their participation in the Indian Premier League 2024 season in doubt. According to a release issued by the ACB, the board has decided to delay the annual contracts for year 2024 for these players having formed a "dedicated committee to thoroughly investigate the matter", after they expressed a desire to be released from their central contracts from January 1. "By opting for their release, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to take disciplinary measures against these players," the board added. Afghanistan are also set to play a three-match T20I ser

"To see your name come up and then to go through that whole experience is definitely something that will stick with us for the rest of our lives." Mitchell became the second-most expensive Black Caps ever purchased in the 15-year history of the IPL, level with Kane Williamson and behind only Kyle Jamieson, who was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 15 crore in 2021. "It is not only about his bowling but also about leading the attack and helping all guys around him. So, somebody will have to pay for it," the former India opener told Jio Cinema. Gambhir, who captained KKR to two IPL titles, said for him having a stro

Royal Challengers Bangalore Director of Cricket Mo Bobat justified the franchise's decision to go after Alzarri Joseph for a big sum in the IPL auction here on Tuesday, saying the West Indian pacer was among their top three targets as he is one of the best exponents in death overs. Starting at a base price of Rs 1 crore, Joseph was bought by RCB for Rs 11.50 crores after an intense bidding war, also involving Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. "We're delighted to have Alzarri (Joseph). From our perspective, he was our top three targets. From an overseas pace bowling perspective, you're always trying to navigate through the auction order, which makes things slightly tricky. We made a good judgment call," Bobat said. "I think, to bring forward our interest in Alzarri and to have a good go at him because he's a player that we really like now with Alzarri, he bowls at high pace, he's got a high release point, so he gets bounce. We know bounce is important at t
