Jamia Millia Islamia hikes fees by up to 41% across courses for 2025-26

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has announced a fee hike for the academic year 2025-26, with increases ranging from 16 to 41 per cent across various courses. A comparison of the latest prospectus with that of the previous year reveals a sharp rise in tuition fees. The Department of Persian has seen a 41.41 per cent increase, with fees rising from Rs 6,700 to Rs 9,475 per year. The Department of Arabic follows closely, with a 37.15 per cent hike, pushing annual fees from Rs 7,200 to Rs 9,875. Similarly, foreign language programmes, including BA (Hons) in Turkish and other languages, have also witnessed a 37.15 per cent fee rise. Social sciences programmes, including MA and BA (Hons) in Political Science, four-year BA (Multidisciplinary), and B Com (Hons), now cost Rs 9,875 per year, reflecting a 32.99 per cent increase from the previous Rs 7,425. CUET-UG cancelled in conflict-hit J&K for 2nd day over technical glitch

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG was cancelled at a centre in Srinagar's Rangreth for the second day on Wednesday due to technical glitches, officials said. The National Testing Agency (NTA) said the exam for the affected candidates will be conducted in the coming days. The crucial entrance exam began on Tuesday after being deferred from May 8. "Due to technical glitches, the examination process at Kite Polytechnic, Rangreth, Srinagar, could not be conducted. Examination for the affected candidates will be scheduled on the upcoming dates, and admit cards will be issued in due course," a senior NTA official said. In Delhi, students reported technical and logistical chaos at a centre in Rohini on Tuesday while several candidates missed the exam at a centre in Noida after they reached late due to traffic snarls. JNU teachers begin month-long protest over promotions, probation delays

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) has announced a series of peaceful demonstrations throughout May to highlight long-pending issues related to faculty promotions, confirmations and probation extensions. DU third phase admission schedule out, upgrade window to open on Aug 31

The Delhi University on Friday released the schedule for the third phase of admissions to undergraduate courses for the 2024-25 session through performance-based programmes. Admissions in this phase will be offered through performance-based programmes and supernumerary quotas, including those for children/widows of armed forces personnel, extra-curricular activities, and sports. The university will also open an upgrade window for students from the previous two admission phases at 5 pm on August 31. The window will close at 4:59 pm on September 1. Students admitted to various courses in the previous two admission phases will have the option to upgrade to higher preferences during this window. Indian universities and higher education institutions will now be allowed to offer admissions twice a year on lines of foreign universities with the University Grants Commission giving a go ahead to the plan, UGC chief Jagadesh Kumar said. The two admission cycles will be July-August and January-February from the 2024-25 academic session. "If Indian universities can offer admission twice a year, it will benefit many students such as those who missed admission to a university in the July-August session due to a delay in the announcement of board results, health issues, or personal reasons," Kumar told PTI. "Biannual university admissions will help students maintain motivation since they do not have to wait one full year to be admitted if they miss admission in the current cycle.
