Israel claims striking nuclear site in Isfahan, Iran yet to respond

The Israeli army said Friday that it struck an Iranian nuclear site in Isfahan. Iran did not immediately acknowledge the claim. An Israeli army spokesman, Brig Gen Effie Defrin, said an attack was still ongoing at the nuclear technology site in Isfahan, some 350 km southeast of Tehran, that employs thousands of nuclear scientists. Isfahan also is home to three Chinese research reactors and laboratories associated with the country's atomic programme.

Israel-Iran tensions: Hardeep Puri says India has adequate energy supplies

India, the world's third-largest oil importer and fourth biggest gas buyer, has enough energy supplies for the coming months, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said amid escalating tensions in the globe's biggest energy supply regions. In a post on X, the minister said he held a periodic review of energy availability scenario with the captains of the Indian oil industry. "India's energy strategy is shaped by successfully navigating the trilemma of energy availability, affordability and sustainability," he said. "We have adequate energy supplies for the coming months." Global oil prices have jumped to their highest level since January after Israel struck Iran, in a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East. The rate of the benchmark Brent crude was up by more than 10 per cent shortly after the news emerged, but eased a little. Brent was trading close to USD 75 a barrel, up more than 5 per cent over Thursday's close. India imports more than 85 per cent of its crude oil needs

Indian students in Tehran seek evacuation amid rising Iran-Israel tensions

The Indian students studying in Iran have appealed to the government for evacuation following Israeli airstrikes that targeted key military and nuclear sites in Iran, including areas near the capital. "Right now the situation is calm and we are safe, but we are feeling scared. The attack started at around 3:30 am and we felt the land shake. It was a concerning experience," Tabiya Zahra, a second-year MBBS student from Kashmir at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), told PTI. Zahra said that while the university officials visited the students and advised them to remain calm, they did not offer clarity on which areas might be safer. She urged the Indian government to arrange evacuation, citing uncertainty about the security situation and limited communication access due to internet disruptions in some areas. Another student, Alisha Rizvi from Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh, said "the embassy asked us to email our local addresses and contact details for emergency purposes". "They

Mirwaiz Farooq calls Israel a rogue state, threat to global peace

Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday condemned Israel's attack on Iran, saying the Jewish state has become a "rogue state and a huge threat to world peace". "Another distressing news that came this morning is the bombing of Iran by Israel in which many civilians, including women and children, have been killed. Besides, senior Iranian military personnel have also been assassinated. This is highly condemnable," he said addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid here. The Hurriyat Conference chairman said while "perpetuating genocide on hapless Palestinians and getting away with it", Israel is now putting the whole of Middle East in "peril". "It has become a rogue state and a huge threat to world peace," he added. The separatist leader said it is the moral duty of the UN and all world nations to put pressure on Israel to stop the "genocide and war in Gaza and prevent Israel from targeting other nations". Netanyahu calls Israel's attack on Iran 'very successful opening strike'

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday described Israel's attack targeting Iran's nuclear installations and senior commanders as "a very successful opening strike". Israel on Friday launched Operation Rising Lion to strike at Iran's nuclear, missile and military complex. The strikes left key military commanders and nuclear scientists dead. "We are after a very successful opening strike. With God's help, we are going to have many more achievements," Netanyahu said. Earlier Netanyahu said Israel struck at the heart of Iran's nuclear enrichment programme. "We struck at the heart of Iran's nuclear weaponisation programme. We targeted Iran's main enrichment facility in Natanz. We targeted Iran's leading nuclear scientists working on the Iranian bomb. We also struck at the heart of Iran's ballistic missile programme," Netanyahu claimed. He dubbed Iranian nuclear and missile programmes an "existential threat". Israeli and Iranian sources confirmed heavy damages to Iran's aerial def
