ONGC sets up 2 100-bed hosps at twin base camps for Amarnath pilgrims

ONGC has set up two 100-bed hospitals at the twin Amarnath base camps in Kashmir and announced that the facilities would continue to operate post the annual yatra. The 52-day pilgrimage commenced from the twin tracks -- the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the 14-kilometre shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal -- early on Saturday. The yatra is scheduled to commence on August 19. ONGC said it teamed up with the health and medical education department to bolster the region's healthcare infrastructure. Recognising the need for sustainable healthcare infrastructure, ONGC, under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, constructed permanent hospitals at Baltal and Chandanwari-Pahalgam in Anantnag, it said in a statement. Mob attacks cops during anti-encroachment drive in J-K's Kathua district

At least five police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, were injured on Saturday after allegedly being attacked by a mob protesting against an anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, officials said. A drive was launched in the Nagri area of Hiranagar to demolish an illegal place of worship that was resisted by a group of locals, the officials said. They turned violent and attacked the police, injuring five personnel, including a deputy superintendent. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to restore law and order, the officials said.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday night visited the base camp of Amarnath yatra in Jammu and reviewed the final arrangements for the pilgrimage. 3 terrorists killed in gunfight with security forces in J&K's Doda

One terrorist was killed by security forces in an ongoing encounter in a forest area in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Wednesday, police officials said. The gunfight started in Bajaad village in Gandoh area around 9.50 am amid intensified search and cordon operation by the police along with the Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following twin terrorist attacks in the hilly district on June 11 and 12, the officials said. A tribunal set up under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on Saturday confirmed the Centre's decision to impose a five-year ban on the Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction) and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir. The one-member tribunal of Delhi High Court judge Sachin Datta was constituted under the stringent anti-terror law in January to assess whether there was "sufficient cause" behind the imposition of the ban. Qualifying date helps establish number of voters on a given date in a state or in the country. Reasi bus accident: J-K admin suspends DSP for 'dereliction' of duty

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday suspended a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of the traffic wing for alleged dereliction of duty related to a major accident here last month. As many as 22 people were killed and 64 injured in the incident that took place in the Akhnoor area here on May 30. The administration had on May 31 suspended six transport department officials for alleged negligence in duty in connection with the accident. "In accordance with the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956, Satish Kumar, DSP, Traffic Rural, Jammu, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect," said Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary of Home Department, in an order issued tonight.
