'Bharat Jodo Yatra' enters day 2 in Karnataka after delayed by rains

The 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resumed along with a large number of people on Saturday after it was delayed by rains in the morning here. According to the Congress sources, Gandhi was supposed to start his march at 6.30 am. However, it was delayed by almost 45 minutes. After the rain stopped, Gandhi commenced his foot march from Tondavadi gate and reached Kalale gate in Gundlupet in Chamarajanagar district. He will rest till 4.30 pm and resume his march. Karnataka HC directs EC to conduct Bengaluru civic polls by Dec 31

The Karnataka High Court on Friday set aside the reservation list for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced by the state government in August this year and directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct elections to the civic body by December 31. The court directed that a fresh list has to be prepared before November 30. The government announced the draft list on August 3 and notified it on August 16. Several petitions were filed in the HC challenging this notification. The HC partly accepted the contentions of petitioner K Mahadev and others from Ejipura. The court found errors in the reservation provided in the OBC and women's categories. However, the reservation for SC/ST candidates was found to be in order. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday alleged that Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah is seeking a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hide the fact that the previous Congress government led by him had withdrawn cases against the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI). He said demanding a ban on a patriotic organisation like the RSS is really "unfortunate". "He (Siddaramaiah) has nothing to question the PFI ban. He (as CM) had withdrawn cases against PFI, now to hide it, he is asking for a ban on RSS, but is unable to say why the RSS should be banned," Bommai said in response to a question. High-level probe to be conducted into Karnataka's Gangolli jetty collapse

A high-level probe will be conducted into the recent collapse of the mini-jetty at Gangolli fishing port in Udupi district, Karnataka Minister for Fisheries and Ports S Angara has said. The probe team, which will be directed to conduct the investigation in a transparent manner, will be announced on Monday, he told reporters after a spot inspection at the jetty on Thursday evening. Angara, who is also the Udupi district-in-charge Minister, said the contractor who was awarded the work will be blacklisted and all those found guilty will be punished. The minister said the government had spent Rs 10 crore for the construction of the jetty. Meanwhile, fishermen leader Ramesh Kunder alleged there was widespread corruption in the construction of the mini-jetty. An Integrated Cryogenic Engine Manufacturing Facility (ICMF) set up by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) that would cater to the entire rocket engine production under one roof for Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu here on Tuesday. The state-of-the-art ICMF, set up over an area of 4,500 square metres houses over 70 hi-tech equipment and testing facilities for manufacturing cryogenic (CE20) and semi-cryogenic (SE2000) engines of Indian rockets. In 2013, an MOU was signed with ISRO for establishing the facility for manufacturing cryogenic engine modules at HAL, Aerospace Division, and it was subsequently amended in 2016 for setting up of ICMF with an investment of Rs 208 crore. Shivakumar rejects allegations of Cong targeting Bommai as he is Lingayat

Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar on Monday rejected allegations that his party was targeting Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai with the 'PayCM' campaign, because the latter is a Lingayat. The High Court of Karnataka on Monday heard a petition by microblogging platform Twitter against the Central government's orders asking it to block some accounts, URLs and tweets. Twitter had challenged the orders on grounds of violation of freedom of speech and the authorities not issuing notice to the alleged violators before asking Twitter to take down content. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had on September 1 filed a 101-page statement of objection to Twitter's petition. Senior advocate Arvind Datar, appearing for Twitter on Monday online, argued the company was following the rules laid out in the Information Technology Act. He contended that Twitter as a platform was affected by the Centre asking it to take down accounts without issuing notice to the alleged violators. Industrial and logistic park developer Logiy Spaces has tied up with AA Holdings to build a new project at Narasapura, Karnataka with an investment of USD 37 million (around Rs 300 crore). In a statement, AA Holdings, which has recently been formed by Abhijit Verma, said it has formed a joint venture with Logiy Spaces to invest USD 37 million for the development of 1 million square feet of industrial and logistics park. The project is scheduled for completion by September 2023.
