A woman died and 70 others were hospitalised in a suspected case of food poisoning in Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural limits, police said on Monday. Police said they suspect the cause of food poisoning to be an edible offering at a place of worship in the area. Some of those hospitalised have been discharged while others are still undergoing treatment. The health department is closely monitoring the situation. As of now, it is suspected to be a case of food poisoning, but since the investigation is in the initial stage, the exact cause cannot be ascertained at present, they added. Preliminary inquiry has revealed that on Saturday, most of them had visited a temple in Hoskote town where they ate 'prasad'. The Karnataka government is all set to launch the registration for its fifth guarantee Yuva Nidhi' on December 26 offering unemployment assistance to post graduates, graduates and diploma holders across the State who have passed in 2023, Minister Sharanaprakash Patil said on Thursday. He said Rs 3,000 monthly unemployment assistance will be given to degree holders and Rs 1,500 to diploma holders. The benefit would be given to those who do not get job even after completion of 180 days from the date of passing of the degree/diploma, Patil said, adding, the candidates are required to prove domicile of Karnataka for a minimum of six years. Two Covid-19 related deaths and 20 fresh cases were reported in Karnataka, according to a Health bulletin issued on Wednesday. The bulletin stated that the deceased - both male aged 44 and 76 - died on December 16 and December 17 respectively in Bengaluru. One of them was asymptomatic while the other patient complained of breathlessness. Earlier in the day, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that a 64-year-old man died in the city due to Covid-19 infection five days ago.
