10 bovine smugglers arrested in Jammu, 92 animals seized

The police foiled several bids to smuggle bovines from Jammu region to Kashmir valley and arrested 10 persons in this regard, officials said Saturday, adding 92 animals were seized. A police team intercepted two trucks on a highway near Ban area in Jammu and found 27 bovines were being smuggled to Kashmir valley, they said. Farooq, Shabir and Ismail were arrested and a case was registered against them, officials said. Police also arrested Qadir, Naseem and Kaka Hussain in Chasana-Mahore belt in Reasi district, and seized 25 bovines from their possession. Two bovine smugglers--Farooq and Talib--were arrested in another incident. Two vehicles carrying 13 bovines were seized in Thanamandi belt of Rajouri district, they said. Police arrested two more persons, Ramzan and Gulzar, and seized 27 bovines in Behramgala and JWG areas in Poonch district. A case was also registered against them, they added.

Cong MLA, Panaji Mayor accused of molestation; seek pre-arrest

A case of molestation and assault has been filed by a woman against three persons including Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserratte and city Mayor Uday Madkaikar following a ruckus during an anti-encroachment drive. Monserratte and the other two moved a court Saturday, seeking anticipatory bail. The alleged incident took place during action taken by the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Friday to remove an alleged illegal structure at the office of 'Big Daddy', an off-shore casino anchored in the river Mandovi. The staircase of the office allegedly encroached on the footpath. Monserratte, the newly elected Congress MLA, mayor Madkaikar and former mayor Yatin Parekh accompanied the CCP workers when they went to remove it. UP: 2 men tied to pole, beaten; police registers case

Police on Saturday registered a case against a group of people for allegedly tying two men to a pole and beating them after a video of the incident went viral.The men were reportedly beaten up for allegedly stealing the battery of an autorickshaw."Sector 22 police station took note of the video circulated on the internet and registered a case under relevant sections," said Kaustubh, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Gautam Buddh Nagar."People who had tied the men in the incident have been identified and a case registered against them," said Kaustubh.Probe in the incident is underway and further details are awaited, said Kaustubh.

Two arrested for selling spurious liquor: police

Police Saturday raided a shop selling countrymade liquor, and arrested two persons after recovering 128 bottles of spurious liquor. The raid was conducted in the wake of hooch tragedy in neighbouring Barabanki district that claimed 17 lives. Additional Superintendent of Police Mahendra Kumar told reporters here that the raid was conducted at the shop in Baggi road area of the district under Dhaneypur police station. "As many as 128 bottles of spurious liquor with fake labels and bottle caps were recovered from the shop. Salesman Deendayal and caretaker Tushar Kant alias Rohit have been arrested, while the licencee Rajesh Vaishya is absconding," the Additional SP said. He added that a case has been registered against the two arrested persons under various sections of the IPC and Excise Act.

Nine Rohingyas arrested in Manipur

Nine Rohingyas have been arrested from Moreh town near the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur's Tengnoupal district with fake Aadhaar cards, police said Saturday. Superintendent of Police Vikramjit told PTI that following a tip-off police apprehended four Rohingyas including two women from the Tengnoupal check post, for possessing fake Aadhaar cards on May 27. The police arrested five other Rohingyas including three women from a hotel in Moreh town on May 28, the SP said. He said investigation revealed that one Tahir Ali, a Rohingya, had married a local Manipuri Muslim woman and was involved in arranging illegal transportation of these foreigners. Ali was arrested from Sora locality in Thoubal district on Friday, the police said. All the arrested except for the "mastermind" Tahir Ali had travelled from the state capital to the border town carrying fake Aadhaar cards, he said. Four arrested after mob thrashes two over theft suspicion in Noida

Four men, who were part of a crowd that thrashed two persons here after tying them to a pole on suspicion of stealing batteries from auto-rickshaws, have been arrested, police said Saturday. Mohd Saleem (60), Ajay (36), Jibrail (25) and Akhil Biswas alias Govind (28) were arrested Friday night, hours after a video surfaced on social media purportedly showing the incident, the police said. "The accused were arrested last night after a case was registered against unidentified persons at Sector 20 police station. Cong candidate killing: 2 arrested in Odisha

The police after an exchange of fire, arrested two persons in connection with the killing of a Congress' assembly poll candidate in Ganjam district of Odisha. Andhra Pradesh: 1 killed over construction of Anganwadi building

One person was killed and five others were injured on Saturday after a minor scuffle over land turned violent in the Anantapuram district of Andhra Pradesh.The incident took place in Patyapuram village and the deceased has been identified as Rajappa.The accused, Chinna Rayudu, allegedly hit Rajappa with a sickle following a dispute over a patch of land allocated for construction of an Anganwadi building by the previous TDP government. Man beaten to death while saving activist in Mumbai

A 44-year-old man died while trying to save an activist from an angry mob in Mumbai's posh Bandra Kurla Complex area. Pak court sentences three JeM activists for terror funding

An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has sentenced three activists of the Masood Azhar-led Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) for five years each in jail for arranging funds for the proscribed terror outfit amid pressure from the global community to rein in militant groups. The Anti-Terrorism Court found the trio guilty in three separate cases on Friday after funds collected for the militant outfit were recovered from them. They were sent to central prison in Gujranwala in Punjab province. The convicts M Iftikhar, Muhammad Ajmal and Bilal were also fined Rs 45,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively besides the sentence. 6 people convicted under MCOCA for running fake job syndicate

A Delhi court has awarded varying jail terms to six people under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for running a syndicate to cheat a large number of people in various states. The convicts -- Vipin Sharma and his wife Hunny, Sachin Sharma, Harshad Alam and his son Aman, and Bhupender Singh -- were held guilty of cheating, forgery, impersonation and criminal conspiracy. While Vipin was sentenced to 12-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 55 lakh, the others have been awarded 10-year jail term with a fine of Rs 14 lakh each. Special Judge Rakesh Syal also ordered that the 10 victims be paid compensation of Rs 33.8 lakh by the members of the syndicate out of the fine imposed on them. According to police, this was the first conviction under MCOCA in Delhi. An undertrial prisoner escaped from the Muzaffarnagar district jail in Uttar Pradesh, officials said Saturday.
