One person has been arrested after the car, he was driving allegedly ran over a homeless person killing him and injuring three others in the early hours of Friday, police said on Saturday.The incident took place in south east Delhi's Hazrat Nizamuddin area where the people were sleeping near the Gumbad."The accused have been booked under sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 304 (rash, negligent or reckless driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)", said an official.The injured are being treated and investigation in the matter is underway.
Jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has sought parole for over a month for farming at his fields in Haryana's Sirsa, officials said Saturday. The 51-year-old is currently lodged at Sunaria jail in Rohtak after being convicted in two rape cases and murder of a journalist. Following his application for the parole for 42 days, the jail superintendent has written to the Sirsa district administration. In a letter dated June 18, the official sought a report whether releasing Gurmeet on parole would be feasible or not. In the communique, the jail superintendent has mentioned that Gurmeet's conduct in the jail has been good and he has not violated any rule. The district administration has been asked to submit a report to Commissioner, Rohtak Division, with a copy marked to the jail superintendent. On receiving the letter, Sirsa Police has approached the Revenue Department to ascertain how much land the Dera chief owns. "We have asked the Revenue Department to provide record .
Two persons were killed and 11 others injured when an auto-rickshaw collided with a car near Hasa village in Bihar's Araria district on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred when the auto-rickshaw carrying over a dozen persons collided head-on with a car coming from Araria, the police said, adding that both the deceased were riding the auto-rickshaw. The 11 injured persons have been referred to Purnea for better treatment, they said. Raniganj police station Officer-in-Charge Om Prakash said that the deceased have been identified as Sani Kumar (20) and Mohammad Safiq (20). Sani was the resident of Chatiyona village under Raniganj police station while Safiq was the resident of Rajbaili village under Bousi police station of the district.
Two cases of murder have been registered in Thane district of Maharashtra on Friday, police said Saturday. In Murbad town, one Bhaskar Pardhi (40) was allegedly axed to death by the husband of his lover at the latter's house in the wee hours of Friday, a police official said. He said the accused has been arrested while his brother, who was also allegedly involved in the crime, is on the run. In another incident, one Baliram Jadhav (40) was allegedly stoned to death at Ambadi Naka in Ganeshpuri by some unidentified persons on Friday, police said. Cases of murder have been registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and furher investigation is underway.
Newly elected Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Atul Rai, who has been accused of rape, surrendered in a court here on Saturday. The judicial magistrate (first) remanded Rai in 14-day judicial custody. An FIR was registered against Rai on May 1 on a complaint by a college student who had alleged that he took her home on the pretext of meeting his wife but sexually assaulted her. Rai, who has denied the rape allegations, had been on the run since the lodging of the FIR. The parliamentarian from the Ghosi constituency in Uttar Pradesh was declared absconder by the local court. The Supreme Court had on May 27 refused to grant Rai protection from arrest in the rape case while noting that 16 other criminal cases were pending against him.
Two incidents of alleged sexual assault on minor girls were reported here, police said Saturday. In one incident, a 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl, the police said. The man called the girl to his house Thursday last when her parents were not at home, and under the pretext of offering fruit allegedly sexually assaulted her, the police said. The girl informed her mother about the abuse when she returned home, they said. Based on a complaint, a case under POCSO Actwas registered and the elderly man was arrested, they added. In the other incident, aminor girl was allegedly sexually abused by her alcoholic father, police said. Following a complaint made by the girls mother, the drunkard was take into custody, they added.
A UN report has found at least 26 people were killed during a 2018 massacre in a Haiti slum, at which several members of the police and a government representative were allegedly present. Over two days, five armed gangs carried out planned attacks on residents in La Saline in the country's capital Port-au-Prince according to the report, which was published Friday. The youngest victim of the violence was aged ten months and the oldest 72 years, the document reported. It said two gang rapes took place and 12 people were still missing. Skeletal remains have been discovered lying in open, in a forest near the government-run Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) here, which is grappling with cases of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES).An investigation team of SKMCH hospital accompanied by policemen visited the spot on Saturday.Dr Vipin Kumar from the hospital said: "Skeletal remains have been found here. Five members of a family, including a boy, were shot dead allegedly by three relatives after a dispute over a strip of land for constructing a road in a town in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, police said Saturday. A woman member of the family and two boys escaped unhurt as they had locked themselves inside a room during the incident on Friday night, an officer said. According to the police, Manoj Ahirwar (45) and Sanjiv Ahirwar (35) were brothers and their families lived in adjacent houses in Bina town, around 150 km northeast of Bhopal, the police said. A man was allegedly stabbed to death by a co-passenger over a dispute regarding a seat in Pawan Express train here in the wee hours of Friday. His body was found near the toilet inside the train."The victim, who hails from Darbhanga in Bihar, was stabbed after they had a tussle over a seat in a general compartment in Pawan Express on Friday," Sanjeet Kumar, Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of Government Railway Police (GRP), told ANI.According to the victim's brother, the accused boarded the train and he forcefully asked the deceased for a seat in the train."After they had an argument, police took hold of the accused of creating disturbance inside the train. A 48-year-old man was on Saturday found dead on the terrace of a house in Ernakulam district, police said. The body of the man identified as Prasad was found this morning on the terrace of the house of a poultry farm owner, they said adding a broken air gun was also found next to it. It is suspected that Prasad, said to be working in the farm, was shot dead, police said. An investigation has been launched into the incident, they said.
A seven-year-old boy was killed and his brother injured when a vehicle hit them while they were playing on a roadside in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district, police said Saturday. The incident happened on Friday evening in Puramufti area of the district. The brothers, Sudhakar (5) and Diwakar (7), were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Diwakar dead, officials said. A man allegedly killed his wife and three young children by slitting their throats in South Delhi's Mehrauli, police said Saturday. Upender Shukla, a private tutor, has been arrested and he is suspected to be suffering from depression, they said. He killed his wife, Archana, and his two-months-old daughter, five-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter by slitting their throats in the early hours of Saturday, Deputy Commission of Police (South) Vijay Kumar said. At the time of the killings, the accused's mother-in-law was in their house in Mehrauli which has two rooms. When Shukla did not open the door of his room on Saturday morning, she informed the neighbours who broke it open and found him sitting next to the bodies, the officer added. They then called up the police, he said. A written note was found in which Shukla confessed to the killing of his wife and children. He, however, did not give any reason for it, the officer said.
