Haryana Police announce cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for providing info leading to arrest of 6 most wanted criminals

Haryana Police on Tuesday announced cash rewards of Rs 1 lakh each for providing information leading to the arrest of six most-wanted criminals involved in various heinous crimes in Jhajjar district, said a spokesperson of the police department."Cash rewards have been announced by Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Yadava on the recommendations made by the Inspector General of Police, Rohtak Range, Sandeep Khirwar," the spokesperson said in a statement.He also added that the DGP has instructed the police to carry out raids to nab the absconding criminals at the earliest.He said that cash rewards of Rs 1 lakh each has been announced on heads of Ravi of Mohalla Chara, Jhajjar, Raj Kumar alias Raju of village Basodi, Rai, Akshay Palra of village Palra and Pawan alias Pahalwan alias Totla of village Nahra, all accused in the killing of Dharmendra alias KK on March 10, 2019, Sachin alias Bhanja alias Kannu of Dulhera, wanted in connection with murder of Ajay, resident of Mandothi, on ..

'Casting director' who morphed women pics with mobile app held

A 28-year-old man, who allegedly posed as a 'casting director' and created morphed images of women struggling for a break into movies and serials through a mobile application, has been arrested for blackmail and extortion, police said Tuesday. The accused Siddharth Sarode, a resident of Sion Chunabhatti, was picked up by unit-9 of crime branch, Bandra. Explaining his modus operandi, a crime branch official said the accused would pose as a casting director for movies and get connected with women strugglers on Facebook and Whatsapp. "Sarode would demand photographs of the women who contacted him for roles. After receiving the photos, he would morph them with mobile phone application 'Pics Art' to show them naked," he said. Sarode would then revert these morphed images to the unsuspecting senders and demand money by threatening them to make the pictures public. Sexual harassment allegations against CJI: SC asks lawyer claiming conspiracy to appear

The Supreme Court Tuesday directed an advocate, who has claimed larger conspiracy to frame Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on allegations of sexual harassment, to appear before it tomorrow to support his stand with materials. The apex court, which has constituted a special bench to hear the matter related to allegations of sexual harassment against the CJI after receiving the sworn affidavit of the advocate in this regard, issued notice to lawyer Utsav Singh Bains for his personal appearance on Wednesday. A three-judge special bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra, Rohinton Fali Nariman and Deepak Gupta asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to provide "adequate police protection" to the lawyer while noting that he has expressed apprehension of threat to his safety. HC closes plea seeking arrest of DK leader Veeramani

The Madras High Court Tuesday 'closed' a plea seeking a direction to arrest Dravidar Kazhagam leader K Veeramani for his alleged provocative remarks against Lord Krishna. Advocate K Ashok alleged that Veermani had made the remarks in the context of the Pollachi sexual harassment case. The petitioner sought a direction from the court to arrest Veeramani. In a counter-affidavit, Sub-Inspector of Police, Cyber Crime cell, Central Crime Branch, submitted an FIR was already registered on the petitioner's complaint and steps have been taken for deletion of the video from circulation among the public in social media. Delhi court issues NBWs against Kejriwal, others for non-appearance in defamation complaint

A Delhi court on Tuesday issued non-bailable warrants against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav for failing to appear before it in a criminal defamation complaint filed in 2013 by a ticket aspirant. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal issued the warrants against Aam Aadmi Party leaders Kejriwal and Sisodia, and Yadav, who was then in the AAP, after noting that nobody was present from their side during hearing on the complaint filed by advocate Surender Kumar Sharma. The court has posted the matter for Wednesday. Sharma, in his complaint, had alleged that in 2013 he was approached by volunteers of AAP who had asked him to contest the Delhi Assembly elections on a party ticket, saying Kejriwal was pleased with his social services. The Supreme Court Tuesday exempted Congress President Rahul Gandhi from personal appearance in the criminal contempt case in which notice was issued to him for his "chowkidar chor hai" remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while referring to the Rafale judgment, which the apex court said was "incorrectly attributed" to it. Man hacked to death outsde booth during polling in WB

A 52-year-old man, claimed to be a Congress activist, was hacked to death outside a booth during polling in Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituency, a senior state police officer said. Two other persons were also injured in the attack which, the Congress alleged, was perpetrated by workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress. "One person was killed in poll violence in Murshidabad," ADG (Law and Order) Siddihathnath Gupta told PTI. SC transfers ex-MP Ateeq Ahmad from UP jail to Gujarat prison for kidnapping businessman

The Supreme Court Tuesday directed shifting former MP Ateeq Ahmad to a high security jail in Gujarat for kidnapping and assaulting a businessman in prison in Uttar Pradesh. Taking a strong note of the incident, which took place in Deoria jail, the top court ordered a CBI probe into the case. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna ordered suspension of five jail officials against whom the Uttar Pradesh government has initiated departmental proceedings for their prima facie involvement in the case. The bench asked the state government to give the status report of 80 cases registered against Ahmed, besides the 26 pending in different courts. Cop arrested in fraud case

Manjakote police here on Tuesday arrested a constable and booked a group of men on the charge of fraud. According to Rajouri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yougal Manhas, an investigation into the case was lodged after several Manjakote residents complained that the suspects, who belonged to Rajouri, had convinced them to invest in a financial scheme run by them, promising to double their invested amount. Later, they refused to return the money. A case was registered under section 420 (cheating) of the IPC at the Manjakote police station. "Police constable Iftkhar Ahmed, a resident of Salwah Mendhar and posted at Rajouri, was also found involved in it. He was asking people to invest in the scheme, the SSP said. Efforts are on to nab the other suspects, the police officer added. Manhas appealed to people to check credentials of persons or companies offering such alluring schemes, before making investments.

HC seeks response from BJP leaders over hoardings in Mumbai

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday sought response from BJP MP Poonam Mahajan, party MLA Ashish Shelar and corporator Alka Kelkar over allegations that hoardings and posters carrying their pictures were put up in the city without requisite permissions. A bench of justices A S Oka and M S Karnik was hearing a petition filed by activist Zoru Bathena, who alleged that several illegal hoardings, banners and posters were put up by the BJP in Khar and Bandra areas of Mumbai. As per the plea, the posters and hoardings had pictures of Mahajan, Shelar and Kelkar. The bench directed Mahajan, Shelar and Kelkar to file their affidavits in response to the petition. "The three respondents - Ashish Shelar, Poonam Mahajan and Alka Kelkar - shall file their affidavits stating if the municipal corporation's permission was taken before putting up the hoardings and banners," Justice Oka said. SC shifts Atiq Khan to Gujarat jail from UP, asks CBI to probe role of former MP in kidnapping of bizman

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the alleged kidnapping and torturing of a businessman by former MP and gangster Atiq Ahmed and his aides. The bench headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi transferred Ahmed to a Gujarat jail from Uttar Pradesh jail. It also ordered the suspension of jail officials who helped the accused inside Deoria jail. HC asks Deepak Talwar's wife to move trial court with plea to be quizzed at home, not ED office

The Delhi High Court Tuesday asked the wife of lobbyist Deepak Talwar, arrested in a money laundering case, to approach a trial court with her plea for direction to the ED to quiz her at her residence and not the agency's office. Justice A K Chawla noted that the anticipatory bail plea of Deepa Talwar is listed before a special court here for April 29 and she should first exhaust the remedy there. The counsel for Deepa Talwar, 62, withdrew the plea with a liberty to approach the special court with the same prayer after which the high court said the petition is "dismissed as withdrawn". 2 guards held for bid to kill lab assistant of edu institute

Two security guards were arrested for allegedly attempting to kill a lab assistant of an educational institute in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Monday. The two accused, Ganesh Verma (25) and Laxman Togre (27), had an argument over some issue in the institute's premises on Monday night, Kasarwadavali police station's inspector A E Kaldate said. When the lab assistant, Rajiv Kumar Bhagat (32), tried to intervene, the accused got angry and allegedly hit him with an earthen flower pot, he said. The victim received injuries and fell unconscious, he said, adding that the accused left him there, locked the premises and fled.
