ND Tiwari's son died due to strangulation, smothering: Autopsy report

Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, son of late Uttarakhand chief minister ND Tiwari, died of "asphyxia" as he was strangulated and smothered, according to autopsy report. Following the postmortem at AIIMS here, police on Thursday registered a case of murder and transferred it to the Crime Branch for investigation, a senior officer said. The autopsy was conducted by a medical board comprising five senior doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). "The medical board unanimously concluded that the cause of death in this case is asphyxia as a result of strangulation and smothering. It is a sudden unnatural death, placed in the category of homicide," the head of the AIIMS' forensic department, Dr Sudhir Gupta, said. The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch and it has started investigating the matter, the officer said. Tribunal serves notice to Jamaat-e-Islami, asks why JeI can't be declared unlawful association

The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal, constituted by the Centre, has issued a show cause notice to Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir (JeI), which was banned by the government in February, asking it why the organisation cannot be declared as an unlawful association. "A notice is hereby given under sub-section (2) of Section 4 of the Act (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) and you are hereby called upon to show cause, within 30 days from the date of service of this notice, as to why your Association, declared as unlawful, be not adjudicated to be so and why an order confirming such declaration be not made under Section 4(3) of the Act," said the notice issued by Registrar, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal, Lorren Bamniyal, to the JeI. Two criminals arrested in Delhi

With the Delhi Police cracking down on gambling in the national capital, two criminals turned security guards working at illegal casinos were arrested here while they were allegedly out to rob people, the police said Friday. Waseem (25), a resident of Uttam Nagar and Deepu (27) from Najafgarh were previously involved in criminal cases, Anto Alphonse, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district said. Maha woman alleges cops didn't help after she was molested

A 24-year-old woman has claimed she was groped by an unknown person at suburban Bandra railway station on Wednesday night and alleged that police personnel who were informed about the incident did not help. Tweeting about her ordeal, the woman said. EC nodal officer goes missing

A nodal officer of the Election Commission in-charge of EVMs and VVPATs posted at Krishnagar under Ranaghat parliamentary constituency in Nadia district, is missing for over 24 hours, an official said Friday. Arnab Roy(30) left his official quarters here for his poll duty at Bipradas Choudhury Polytechnic College Thursday morning but was not spotted since afternoon, a senior Nadia police officer told PTI. His vehicle was, however, found parked outside the college here, he said. Sources in the district police said that his two mobile phones are switched off and their last location was detected to be near Shantipur, also in Nadia district. Engineering student found dead in Raichur

Timely action could have averted arson attack on Nusrat Jahan: Bangla Police

Man who sent white powder to Trump's sons to be sentenced

Prosecutors are seeking three years in prison for a Massachusetts man who admitted to sending threatening letters filled with white powder to President Donald Trump's sons and others. Daniel Frisiello is set to be sentenced Friday in Boston federal court. He pleaded guilty in October. The letter Frisiello sent to Donald Trump Jr. was opened last year by his now-ex-wife, Vanessa. Car smashes into pedestrians in Tokyo, killing 2 on bicycle

Japanese police say a car driven by an 87-year-old man has smashed into pedestrians at a Tokyo intersection, killing a woman and a girl on a bicycle and overturning a garbage truck. Eight people were reportedly injured. The Metropolitan Police Department said the woman and child were pronounced dead at a hospital after the accident Friday. Nigeria's ex-top judge moves to upturn graft conviction

Nigeria's former most senior judge who was found guilty of graft charges has appealed his conviction, his lawyers said on Friday. Former chief justice Walter Onnoghen was banned from holding office for 10 years by an ethics court on Thursday in a case the opposition said was politically motivated. Onnoghen was tried for failing to divulge cash in five foreign bank accounts in contravention of rules governing the declaration of assets by public officials. The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)also ordered the seizure of the funds in the accounts since the embattled judge could not justify how he acquired the money. Bangladeshi girl killed by madrasa teacher for reporting sexual harassment against him: police

A teenaged school girl in Bangladesh was allegedly burnt to death by her madrasa principal for reporting a sexual harassment case against him, triggering nationwide protests in the country. Tripura Cong chief booked for slapping man in police station

Police have filed a complaint against state Congress unit chief Pradyot Kishore Debburman for slapping a supporter of rival IPFT, who allegedly made an attempt to attack the convoy of his sister and party's Lok Sabha candidate Pragya Debburman, an officer said.
