Maharashtra will require cumulative investment of USD 1.53 trillion over the next six years to become a USD one trillion economy, a vision statement prepared by the Maharashtra Institution of Transformation (MITRA) said. A presentation of the vision statement was made on Friday to the state cabinet, which accepted 341 recommendations. MITRA is Maharashtra's economic advisory council and was set up in December 2022 to prepare the state's economic development vision. The vision statement spoke about achieving 17 per cent GSDP growth as well as creation of 15 million jobs over the next six years. Asserting that Maharashtra was the powerhouse of the Indian economy, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he wanted the state's GSDP to touch USD one trillion by 2028. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his Maharashtra counterpart Eknath Shinde has given consent to a proposal for providing land for the construction of a Kamakhya temple in the western state. The Maharashtra Congress demanded that the state government set up a committee to prepare a legal and regulatory framework to deal with deepfakes generated by artificial intelligence. In a post on X, the party's state unit general secretary Sachin Sawant said a separate machinery is needed to identify deepfakes and expose them. IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd (IRB) on Wednesday said its revenue from toll collection grew 30 per cent to Rs 447.7 crore in October 2023. Toll collection stood at Rs 345.1 crore in the same month last year, IRB said in a statement. Out of its 13 tolls, IRB MP Expressway in Maharashtra contributed the major share of Rs 140.9 crore to the total revenue collection, it said. Amitabh Murarka, Deputy CEO of the Company, said, "Pleased to see the continuation of momentum built in first two quarters of FY24, also getting continued in the first moth of third quarter. We also expect start of tolling on the Samakhiyali Santalpur BOT project in Gujarat soon, which would further facilitate better toll revenue." Maharashtra government on Wednesday decided to acquire the iconic Air India building at Nariman Point in Mumbai for Rs 1,601 crore. The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet in Mumbai. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, also decided to waive off around Rs 250 crore unrealised income and interest on the property, an official said. The building was constructed in 1974 on land owned by the state government, which will now use it for its office space. After the 2012 fire at Mantralaya, the state secretariat building in south Mumbai, four major departments -- public health, medical education, water supply and sanitation, and rural development -- have been operating from GT Hospital. These departments, along with others, may be shifted to the Air India building, an official said. The 23-storey building is owned by Air India Assets Holding Limited, a company created by the union ministry of civil aviation in 2018 to manage all Air India-owned properties.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said his government is making all efforts to curb rising pollution in Maharashtra and appealed for united efforts to make it happen.
