Metro Railway will run 214 trains on June 17 on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Zuha in the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-New Garia) stretch, an official statement said on Saturday. On a normal day, the Metro Railway runs 288 trains. But as Monday is a holiday due to Eid-Ul-Zuha so 214 trains will run on that day, it said. The first train will commence at 6:50 am from Dumdum to Kavi Subhash (New Garia) and from Kavi Subhash to Dakshineshwar on that day. The last train for Kavi Subhas from Dumdum will leave at 9:40 pm and the last Dumdum-bound train from Kavi Subhash will also leave at 9:40 pm. However, after over an hour gap, special night Metro services on the Blue Line will be available as one pair of trains will leave Kavi Subhash and Dumdum stations each at 11 pm. The Centre has cleared a Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs-DDA proposal for the construction of the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor, a Raj Niwas statement said on Saturday. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had taken up the construction of this metro corridor with the Centre on various occasions, it said. The Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor will be constructed at a cost of Rs 6,231 crore with the Delhi portion estimated to cost Rs 5,685.22 crore and the Haryana portion Rs 545.77 crore, the statement said. This corridor is planned as an extension of the existing Red Line. Nearly 40 per cent of the cost of the Delhi portion will be borne by the central government. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will be contributing Rs 1,000 crore of the remaining cost while 37.5 per cent of the capital will come from bilateral/multilateral loans and about 20 per cent from the Delhi government, it said. Kolkata Metro on Monday said it has recorded a 38 per cent increase in its non-fare revenue in April this year. With this, Kolkata Metro has been able to register itself as one of the frontrunners among all railway zones in the country, it said in a statement. "Metro Railway, Kolkata has earned Rs 2.72 crore in April 2024 as non-fare revenue," it said, adding that the figure was Rs 1.97 in the same period last year. Kolkata Metro has been focusing on generating revenues through branding of litter bins at stations, displaying ads inside and outside trains, putting up hoardings in open spaces and installing health check-up kiosks at different stations, a spokesperson said. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced that it has revised the speed restriction between Chhatarpur and Sultanpur on the Yellow Line from 20 to 25 KMPH after earlier restrictions caused delays to services.The DMRC had on Tuesday put a temporary speed restriction of 20 KMPH between Chhatarpur and Sultanpur on the Yellow Line due to the construction of a tunnel for the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor of Ph 4."Taking into consideration the issue of passenger convenience speed restriction imposed between Chhatarpur & Sultanpur, it has now been revised to 25 KMPH. The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade metro section, which passes below the Hooghly river through the country's first under-water transportation tunnel, carried more than 70,000 passengers on the first day of its operation, an official said on Saturday. Commercial operation on the stretch started on Friday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on March 6. The number of passengers on the first day in this 4.8-km underground stretch between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade was 70,204, the official said. He said that out of these, 23,444 persons boarded at Howrah Maidan, while 20,923 passengers boarded at Howrah, which is the deepest metro station in India. The first driverless metro train comprising six coaches from China arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited said. These coaches arrived at Hebbagodi depot in Electronic City, the IT hub in South Bengaluru. This train will operate on the Yellow Line of the BMRCL from RV Road to Electronic City via Silk Board. The train and coaches were built by a Chinese firm, which got a contract to build 216 coaches for BMRCL, an official told PTI. DMRC chief Vikas Kumar has conducted a late-night inspection of some metro stations on its Pink Line, a day after a portion of a wall collapsed at Gokulpuri station, officials said on Saturday. A 53-year-old man died and four people were injured in the Thursday morning incident. "The DMRC MD conducted an inspection of some of the metro stations on its Pink Line on Friday night. He spent about 2.5 hours during the inspection and also interacted with staff," a senior official of DMRC said.
