Mumbai logs 104 new Covid-19 cases, 2 casualties in last 24 hours

Mumbai on Sunday recorded 104 fresh cases of coronavirus and two deaths due to the infection, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. With this, the tally of cases has risen to 11,49,049 and toll to 19,725, he said. Of the latest cases, 14 patients have been hospitalised, with seven on oxygen support, taking the number of patients undergoing treatment at city hospitals to 141, the official said. As many as 185 patients have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, raising the count of recoveries to 11,28,253. With a recovery rate of 98.2 per cent, the city currently has 1,071 active cases, he said. At least 7,635 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of tests conducted so far to 1,82,30,558, the official said. The overall growth rate of cases between September 11 and 17 is 0.015 per cent and the doubling rate is at 4,925 days, he added.

Mumbai sees 138 Covid cases, 1 death, 289 recoveries; active tally at 1,309

Mumbai on Thursday reported 138 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the metropolis' tally to 11,48,640 and the toll to 19,722, a civic official said. On Wednesday, the city had seen 203 cases and two deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official pointed out. Of the new cases, only 14 are symptomatic, the official added. The recovery count rose by 289 and reached 11,27,609, leaving the city with 1,309 active cases, he added. BMC data showed that 1,82,05,946 coronavirus tests have been carried out in Mumbai so far, including 8,433 in the last 24 hours. This is lower than the 9,281 tests conducted in the preceding 24-hour period. It also revealed the recovery rate was 98.2 per cent and the growth rate of cases between September 8 and 14 was 0.019 per cent. The caseload doubling time was 3,783 days, as per official data.

Mumbai logs 203 new Covid-19 cases, 2 deaths; active tally at 1,461

Mumbai on Wednesday reported 203 new coronavirus cases, while two more patients succumbed to the infection in the city, the local civic body said. With these additions, the overall COVID-19 tally increased to 11,48,502, while the death toll rose to 19,721, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a bulletin. On Tuesday, Mumbai had logged 193 COVID-19 cases, but zero fatalities linked to the infection. As per the bulletin, the new COVID-19 cases were detected after 9,281 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, pushing up their cumulative count to 1,81,97,513. A day ago, 6,691 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the financial capital. Mumbai's tally of recuperated cases rose to 11,27,320 after 314 patients recovered from the viral infection in the last 24 hours, the BMC said. The city has a coronavirus recovery rate of 98.2 per cent and is now left with 1,461 active cases, the bulletin said. Of the 203 new COVID-19 cases, only 11 patients were symptomatic, it said.

Heavy overnight rain in Mumbai; IMD forecasts cloudy sky, moderate showers

Heavy overnight showers in Mumbai caused water-logging in some low lying areas, but the water receded after the rain intensity reduced on Wednesday morning, civic officials said. Trains and buses were running normally in the city, they said. Some parts of the city witnessed clear sky and sunlight for a brief period in the morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy sky and moderate rain in the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours. Heavy rains in Mumbai; IMD issues 'orange alert' for three regions

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and neighbouring areas on Tuesday morning and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more showers in the city. The IMD has also issued an 'orange alert' for Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the three districts. The MeT department's Santacruz observatory in Mumbai, representative of suburbs, recorded 93.4 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period till 8.30 am on Tuesday, marking another spell of heavy downpour here in the current monsoon season. The Colaba observatory, representative of the island city, recorded 59.2 mm rainfall during the same period, an IMD official said. Mumbai records 128 new covid-19 cases, 1 death; active tally at 1,666

Mumbai on Monday recorded 128 new cases of coronavirus that took the overall tally to 11,48,106, while one more patient succumbed to the infection in the city, said a civic official. With one more COVID-19-linked death registered in the metropolis, the toll increased to 19,719, said the official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The count of recoveries rose to 11,26,721 after 172 people recuperated from the infection, he said. The city has a coronavirus recovery rate of 98.1 per cent and is now left with 1,666 active cases, the official said. As per a bulletin issued by the civic body, 6,206 swab samples were examined in the last 24 hours for detection of COVID-19, taking the number of tests conducted so far to 1,81,81,541. Of the 128 new cases, only 11 patients were symptomatic, it stated. The growth rate of COVID-19 cases in the city stood at 0.022 per cent between September 5 and September 11, while the case doubling rate has improved to 3,203 days.

Truck catches fire on Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway in Maha's Palghar district

A truck coming to Mumbai from Ahmedabad was gutted in a fire on Sunday evening in the Palghar district neighbouring Mumbai, an incident which affected the traffic on the national highway for at least two hours, police said. No casualties were reported in the incident which occurred near Haloli village under the limits of the Manor police station, about 92 km away from Mumbai. A police official said the truck was operated on CNG and fully loaded when the incident occurred. The exact cause of the fire was not known.

Mumbai on Sunday recorded 187 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the tally in the metropolis to 11,47,978 and the toll to 19,718, a civic official said. The recovery count increased by 375 to touch 11,26,549, leaving the city with 1,711 active cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said. Of the new cases, only 13 are symptomatic, taking the total number of such patients to 216, he added. BMC data showed the recovery rate was 98.1 per cent and the growth rate of cases between September 4 and September 10 stood at 0.024 per cent. The overall number of coronavirus tests carried out in the city was 1,81,75,335, including 4,801 in the last 24 hours, as per official data. The caseload doubling time was 2,962 days, it added.

Workers of rival Sena factions clash in Mumbai; FIRs against both sides

Workers of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's camp clashed with each other here in the early hours of Sunday, officials said. 193,000 idols immersed in Mumbai during ten-day Ganesh festival

More than 1.93 lakh idols were immersed in Mumbai during the ten-day Ganesh festival which concluded on Friday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. A total of 1,93,062 idols, including 6,795 idols of Goddess Gauri, were immersed this year in the city, the civic body said. This was 17 per cent increase over 2021 when 1,65,040 Ganesh and Gauri idols had been immersed amid the coronavirus pandemic, the BMC said. Gauri idols usually form a very small proportion of the number. As many as 66,127 idols were immersed in artificial ponds set up across the city over the last ten days. Notably, the number dropped by 20 per cent as last year 82,061 idols had been immersed in artificial ponds. After a gap of two years, Ganpati or Ganesh festival was celebrated without any pandemic-related restrictions this year. According to the BMC, the highest 60,557 idols were immersed on the second day of the festival.
