'War is not Bollywood movie', says ex-Army chief on Operation Sindoor

Former Indian Army chief General Manoj Naravane has slammed questions being raised on the suspension of hostilities between India and Pakistan, saying war is not romantic and is not a Bollywood movie. Speaking at an event in Pune, Naravane said if ordered, he would go to war, but diplomacy would be his first choice. He said there is trauma among people living in the border areas, including children who have seen shelling and have to run to shelters at night. "For those who have lost their loved ones, that trauma will be carried through generations. There's also something called PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). People who have seen gruesome scenes wake up sweating even after 20 years and need psychiatric care," he said. Naravane was speaking at a programme organised by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. "War is not romantic. It is not your Bollywood movie. It is very serious business. War or violence should be the last thing we should resort to, which is why our Prim

After Pahalgam attack, India told nations it will strike Pak's terror infra

Following the Pahalgam attack, India conveyed to many world capitals, including the US, that there should be no doubts about its punitive strikes against terror camps operating from Pakistani soil, government sources said on Sunday. After the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, India communicated to various countries that its response to every Pakistani military action would be more forceful and decisive, they said. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi told US Vice President JD Vance on May 9 that Indian response will be "more forceful, stronger, devastating" in response to Pakistani actions, the sources said. Vance dialled Modi as the military confrontation between the two neighbours was significantly escalating. "In all our messages after April 22, we said we will hit the terrorists, there will be consequences. We were very, very clear from day one," said a source. "They fire, we fire. They stop, we stop. This was our message," the source said. The sources said Modi listened to

BJP hails PM Narendra Modi, says India isolated Pakistan diplomatically

The BJP on Sunday asserted that India had rewritten the rules of its engagement with Pakistan under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as the ruling party hit out at the Congress and alleged the Indira Gandhi-led government released more than 90,000 prisoners of war without securing any strategic advantage after the 1971 war. The remarks came after India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an agreement to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. The Congress on Sunday demanded answers from the government on if it had accepted third-party mediation on Kashmir after the US made announcements on behalf of India and Pakistan, pressing for convening an immediate session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and the latest developments on the cross-border firing. Asserting that it was time to remember Indira Gandhi's leadership, the Congress also cited her actions in 1971 that led

India right to act against Pak-based terrorists, industry backs govt: CII

India has done the right thing to punish Pakistan-based terrorists who killed innocent citizens and the industry stands firmly behind the government, committed to doing what is required to ensure that the country's economic progress sustains, according to CII President Sanjiv Puri. The military conflict between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the killing of 26 people in Pahalgam last month is a moment to "rededicate ourselves and re-energise ourselves towards nation building", including enhancing India's defence manufacturing capabilities and capacities, Puri told PTI in an interview. "What the government is doing is absolutely the right thing to do. The idea is really aligned to what the government has always said 'to punish those responsible for terrorism' and nothing can justify killing of innocent citizens. So those people responsible must be punished," Puri, who is also the MD of ITC, said. Puri was responding to a query on what would the industry like the government to
