The Assam Police on Tuesday said it will start offering voluntary retirement to all obese personnel if they fail to reduce their weights by November this year. Director-General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh said the decision was taken on the direction by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons for using legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's name, photo and voice for the promotion of medicinal products without his permission, an official said on Friday. One of Tendulkar's aides filed a complaint with the West Region Cyber Police Station in this regard on Thursday, he said. The complainant said that he came across online advertisements of a drug company which claimed that the master batter endorsed its product line. He also found a website, sachinhealth.in, which promoted these products using Tendulkar's photo. As Tendulkar had never given permission to the company to use his name and photographs and it was leading to maligning of his image, he instructed his aide to take legal action, the complaint said. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked officials to complete the recruitment process for thousands of vacant posts in the state police force within three months. She said the shortlisted candidates can be provided an initial training of seven days and inducted into the force. There are thousands of vacant posts in the police force. I suggest there should be an initial training of seven days, and the rest of the training can be conducted on field. All the vacant posts should be filled up within three months, she said at a review meeting of 'Utkarsh Bangla' held at the state secretariat here on Thursday. The Uttarakhand Police has formed a team to probe into the appearance of boards bearing QR codes seeking donations from pilgrims outside the gates of Badrinath and Kedarnath, it said on Thursday. The team -- headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Chamoli) Natasha Singh -- was constituted by Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal, his office said in a release. The team has been asked to coordinate with the cyber cell of Uttarakhand Police and uncover the case at the earliest. It has also been directed to brief Dobhal's office about the investigation on a daily basis. The Gujarat Police on Tuesday said 39,497 out of 41,621 women who went missing in the state between 2016 and 2020 have been traced and reunited with their families, and currently only "1000 plus" women remain missing. The police dismissed as "misleading" and "half-truths" the reports published by some media outlets that cited NCRB data to claim that more than 40,000 women have gone missing in Gujarat in five years. "The same NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) report also mentioned that more than 39,000 women were also found during that period (2016-20)," said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Narsimha Komar. He said as per the 'Crime in India' report published by NCRB, 41,621 women went missing in Gujarat between 2016 and 2020, but the same report also says that 39,497 missing women have been traced by the police and reunited with their families in the same period. He said the recruitment was carried out on behalf of Assam Police, Director General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam Police Radio Organisation (APRO), Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), Prison, Excise and Forest departments. "The SLPRB was given responsibility by different departments to conduct recruitment for 5,730 posts. A total of 5,421 candidates were found suitable for these posts," he said as the results were declared online. A MiG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan on Monday, leaving at least two civilians dead and as many injured on the ground, police said. The pilot of the aircraft is safe, District Collector Rukmani Riar said. Bikaner Inspector General of Police Om Prakash said two people have died and as many injured in the plane crash in Pilibanga area of Hanumangarh district. The pilot made all efforts to avert human casualties and crash-landed the plane on the outskirts of a village, Prakash said. He said over 2,000 people have gathered at the crash spot and police and administration are trying to maintain law and order. The IAF has been alerted, he added. Additional Superintendent of Police Jassaram Bose said the number of civilian casualties may increase.
More than a month after four members of a family from Gujarat's Mehsana district died while trying to cross into the US from Canada, the Mehsana police have lodged an FIR against three agents allegedly involved in the illegal immigration racket, an official said on Thursday. As per the FIR, the three agents allegedly took Rs 60 lakh from the kin of the deceased here and compelled the four victims to take a boat ride to cross the St Lawrence river on the US-Canada border amid turbulent weather, which ended in a tragedy as the boat eventually capsized, Mehsana's Vasai police station inspector J S Rabari said. The deceased - Pravinbhai Chaudhary (50), his wife Daksha (45), their son Meet (20) and daughter Vidhi (24) - were natives of Manekpura-Dabhal village in Vijapur taluka of Mehsana where Chaudhary used to do farming, as per the FIR. The Uttar Pradesh Police said Friday that they have gunned down 183 alleged criminals in encounters in the six years of Yogi Adityanath's government and this included gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad's son Asad and his accomplice, who were killed in an exchange of fire in Jhansi. The UP Police data showed that more than 10,900 police encounters have taken place in the state since March 2017, when Adityanath took over as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time. In these encounters, 23,300 alleged criminals were arrested and 5,046 were injured. The number of policemen injured in them was 1,443 and 13 were killed, the data showed. Of the 13 policemen killed in encounters since March 2017, eight were ambushed in a narrow lane of Kanpur by the aides of notorious gangster Vikas Dubey. Bihar Police has detained one person on Wednesday after a hoax call was made claiming that an explosive was planted at the Jayprakash Narayan International Airport here earlier in the day. The caller was detained by the police in Samastipur, senior superintendent of police of Patna Rajeev Mishra told PTI. Initial investigations have revealed that the caller was in an inebriated state when he made the call, he said. "The entire area was scanned thoroughly but no suspicious object was found. The search operation was carried out without inconveniencing the passengers," Mishra said. The matter is being investigated, he said. Security was beefed up at the airport after the call was made to a landline number on Wednesday morning, an airport official said. Now policemen not following traffic rules in Rajasthan will have to pay double fine and departmental action will be taken against them in a strict move to curb such violations, an official statement said on Tuesday. The directions in this regard were issued by Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) V K Singh on the instruction of Director General of Police Umesh Mishra. Singh said those police officials who do not wear helmets and sit with more than two passengers on a two-wheeler, not wear seat belts while driving a four-wheeler, jump red light, drink and drive and violate other traffic rules as prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act will have to pay double the normal fine.
