Sudan protest leaders seek supporters' view to end deadlock
Sudan's protest leaders said Thursday they will seek advice from demonstrators camped outside army headquarters on how to break the deadlock in talks with the military council on installing civilian rule. Talks between the two sides have been suspended since Monday after a disagreement over who should lead a new governing body -- a civilian or the military. The protest movement, the Alliance for Freedom and Change, said it will launch a campaign to urge demonstrators who have been rallying for weeks outside army headquarters in Khartoum, and in other cities, to come up with a solution to break the deadlock. "We will give them all the information, we will listen to their views on how they want to go ahead with the revolution," the umbrella protest group said in a statement. BJP appeared set for major gains in Lok Sabha polls in Odisha with its candidates leading in nine seats, while the ruling BJD is ahead in 12. "An informal cabinet meeting has been called tomorrow, May 24, 2019 at 12:30 PM, at cabinet hall in Vidhana Soudha (the state secretariat)," an official intimation sent out to Ministers said. At the meeting, the Chief Minister, along with his cabinet colleagues from both parties, are likely to discuss the Lok Sabha poll outcome and the way ahead for the coalition, sources said. Set to sweep Madhya Pradesh, BJP seeks Nath's resignation
With the BJP leading in 28 out of the 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, the state unit of the opposition party Thursday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who is heading the Congress government in the state since December last year. State BJP chief Rakesh Singh said the counting trends indicate an overwhelming mandate in favour of the BJP, which lost power in Madhya Pradesh in the Assembly polls held late last year. In the Assembly polls, the Congress won 114 of the state's 230 seats, two short of the majority mark of 116. The BJP, which ruled the state since 2003 before being ousted from power, bagged 109 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party, which has two MLAs, and the Samajwadi Party, which has one legislator, are supporting the Congress government besides four Independent lawmakers. Noida: BJP's Mahesh Sharma cruises ahead by over 1 lakh votes
Union minister and BJP leader Mahesh Sharma is leading by a comfortable margin of 1.39 lakh votes from the Gautam Budhh Nagar seat after 19 rounds of counting for the Lok Sabha polls, the district election office said. By 6.45 pm, Sharma had polled 4.37 lakh votes across the five assembly segments of Noida, Jewar, Dadri, Sikandrabad and Khurja that constitute the Gautam Buddh Nagar parliamentary seat, it said. Bahujan Samaj Party's Satveer Nagar, whose candidature is also backed by the Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal, is running second with 2.98 lakh votes. Congress' Arvind Kumar Singh is trailing with 23,425 votes, according to the district election office. So far, 4,632 NOTA (None of the Above) votes have been counted, more than what the remaining 10 candidates, including Independents, have polled, official data showed. A total of 7.73 lakh votes were counted by the end of the 19th round at around 6.45 pm, the office said. The counting is underway at Phool Mandi in Noida.
