KCR congratulates Modi, Jagan for poll victories

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the spectacular victory of BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha polls. He wished that the country march ahead under the leadership of Modi, a release from the Chief Minister's office said. Rao hailed the victory of YSR Congress in the Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh. He telephoned Reddy to wish him, the release said. Hoping that Andhra Pradesh achieves progress under the leadership of Reddy, Rao wished ties between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would improve, it added. The BJP, on its own, was leading in over 290 seats in the 543-seat Lok Sabha. YSR Congress was leading in about 150 seats in the 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Congress feeling dejected as trends not in line with expectations: Shergill

The Congress on Thursday said it was feeling dejected as trends are not in line with the expectation of the party. "Congress party is feeling dejected and the trends are not in line with the expectations of the party. I would not jump to the results till complete counting has taken place," Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill told reporters. "If they (trends) hold, then Congress needs to introspect as to why its campaign failed to resonate with the people of the country," he said. Riding on a massive Modi wave sweeping through most parts of India, the BJP was set to return to power Thursday as it led in 292 seats while the Congress trailed far behind with 50, according to trends released by the Election Commission for all 542 seats that went to polls. If the trends stay until final results, the BJP would have improved on its 2014 performance when it had won 282 seats on its own in the 543-member Lok Sabha. With his YSR Congress heading for a landslide victory in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy Thursday termed it as people's victory. Noida: BJP's Mahesh Sharma consolidates lead

Union minister and BJP leader Mahesh Sharma is leading by a margin of over 45,000 votes from Gautam Budhh Nagar seat after four rounds of counting for the Lok Sabha polls, the district election office said. Sharma has polled 98,993 votes so far across the five assembly segments of Noida, Jewar, Dadri, Sikandrabad and Khurja that constitute the Gautam Buddh Nagar parliamentary seat, it said. BSP's Satveer Nagar, whose candidature is also backed by the Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal, is running second with 53,982 votes, while Congress's Arvind Kumar Singh is trailing with 4,735 votes, according to the district election office. So far, 926 NOTA (None of the Above) votes have been counted, more than what the remaining 10 candidates, including Independents, have polled, official data showed. A total of 1.60 lakh votes were counted by the end of the fourth round around 12 noon, the office said. The counting is underway at Phool Mandi in Noida.
