Complete probe in Bandipora rape case on fast track basis: Guv

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik Monday directed police to complete investigations in the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Bandipora district on a fast track basis. The state police has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the rape case and one person has been arrested. The governor has also directed the Divisional Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police of Kashmir to personally monitor the investigation, an official spokesman said. Malik expressed deep shock and pain over incident and took a detailed report of the ongoing investigation in the case. The spokesman said a separate inquiry has also been ordered to check the veracity of the age of the accused and ascertain the authenticity of the age certificate. Preliminary medical examination of the youth accused of raping the girl has shown that he is not a juvenile, police said Monday. Terrorists fire upon political worker in J-K's Shopian

Congress announces candidates for Telangana Assembly bye-elections

The Congress party on Monday announced the name of candidates for the ensuing bye-elections to Telangana Legislative Assembly.Congress leaders Enagala Venkatram Reddy will be contesting from Warangal, Komatireddy Laxmi from Nalgonda and Uday Mohan Reddy from Ranga Reddy seats respectively.The seats fell vacant due to the resignation of Patnam Narender Reddy, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy and Konda Muralidhar Rao from Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, and Warangal Local Authorities' constituencies respectively last year.The polling for all three seats will be held on May 31 from 8 am to 4 pm. Azharuddin cries foul over demolition of 200-year-old masjid in Hyderabad

LS polls: Election Commission orders re-poll at Faridabad booth

A polling agent was arrested for allegedly attempting to influence voters at a polling booth in Faridabad parliamentary constituency during the sixth phase of voting for Lok Sabha polls on Sunday, prompting the Election Commission to order repolling."A complaint of a violation of the secrecy of voting in polling station 88, Asawati in Prithla constituency of 10, Faridabad parliamentary constituency was reported yesterday. On enquiry by the Observer, the complaint was found to be true. Pakistan on Monday condemned the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Bandipora district in Jammu and Kashmir, terming it as a "horrific" incident. Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal also condemned the use of pellet guns on protesters in the Valley. Venezuelan general calls for military uprising against Maduro

A Venezuelan air force general has called on his country's armed forces to rise up against President Nicolas Maduro, who remains in power with military support despite a sweeping economic crisis.
