Sibal criticises Dhankhar's praise of RSS, says Chair should remain neutral

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Thursday said Upper House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar's remarks that the RSS has "unimpeachable credentials" were contrary to tradition and that such an opinion can be expressed by a member but not by the Chair. Reacting to the remarks, Sibal said on X, "Dhankar ji: RSS as an 'organisation has unimpeachable credentials'. My take: Only his opinion with which others in the House may differ." "Since Dhankar ji represents the will of the House, such an opinion can be expressed by a member but not by the Chair. Contrary to tradition," the Independent Rajya Sabha MP said. During the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Samajwadi Party's Ramji Lal Suman said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliation was the criterion for the government in selecting the head of the National Testing Agency (NTA). At this point, Dhankhar ordered that the comments will not go on record. "I hereby rule that RSS is an organisation that has full constitutional right

Govt employees being politicised by PM Modi on ideological basis: Congress

The Congress slammed the BJP-led Centre on Monday over its order removing a ban on the participation of government employees in RSS activities, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to politicise employees on an ideological basis. The attack by the Congress, which also said the move would be a challenge to the sense of neutrality of public servants, came after a government order about the ban being lifted became public and several opposition leaders criticised it. In a post on X, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on this day in 1947, India adopted its national flag but the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological mentor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), opposed the tricolour and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had warned the organisation against it. "Sardar Patel had also banned RSS after Gandhiji's assassination on February 4, 1948. Modiji has lifted a 1966 ban on government servants attending RSS activities, after 58 years," Kharge said. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday claimed that after 1857, the British systematically made efforts to diminish the faith that countrymen had in their traditions and ancestors. Bhagwat said there is blind faith but faith is never blind. He said some practices and customs that have been followed are beliefs. Some could be wrong and need to be changed. The British systematically made efforts to eliminate faith from our minds after 1857 (when the British Crown formally started ruling India)... The faith which we had in our traditions and ancestors," the RSS chief added. Bhagwat was speaking at the launch of a book by author G B Deglurkar. He said India has idol worship which goes beyond the shape and connects with the formless. It is not possible for everyone to access the formless, so one has to go step by step. No end to human ambition; people should work for mankind, says RSS chief

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday asserted that people should work relentlessly for the welfare of mankind, since there is no end to the pursuit of development and human ambition. In the course of self-development, a man may want to become 'superman', then 'Devta' and 'Bhagwan' and aspire for 'vishwaroop', but nobody is certain what lies ahead, Bhagwat said. Addressing a village-level workers meeting, organised by a non-profit organisation Vikas Bharti here, he also said that some people, despite being human, lacked human qualities and they should inculcate it first. "After achieving human qualities, man aspires to become superman with supernatural powers and then attain the status of 'Devta' and 'Bhagwan'. He then aspires for vishwaroop (the supreme power's all-pervading form). What is beyond that, no one is certain," Bhagwat said. There is no end to the development of the inner and outer self and one should work relentlessly for humanity, he said .

Chargesheets to cabin crew can be detrimental: Air India Express Union

The Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU) has termed the alleged issuance of charge-sheet by the airline's management to around 200-odd cabin crew members for reporting sick during last month's strike as unfortunate and unfair labour practice. In a letter to Air India Express chief Alok Singh on Sunday, the Union also warned the Tata Group-run airline's management that such actions could be detrimental to the interests of the company and its passengers. According to Union sources, the charge-sheet was issued to around 200 cabin crew members on June 5, with a deadline of 72 hours to file a response. Around 200 cabin crew members of Air India Express went on strike on May 7, to protest against the alleged mismanagement in the airline, resulting in cancellation of hundreds of flights. Consequently, the airline management terminated the services of 25 cabin crew members and warned the others to join work or else face the same action. Three days later, the strike was called off aft
