Indian men's hockey team captain PR Sreejesh feels that a bronze medal and win against Pakistan can hardly heal the pain of not being able to win the gold at the Asian Games. India lost to Malayia in a shoot-off after conceding an equaliser in the final minute of the regulation time. Being the defending champions and ranked fifth in the world, India were clearly the overwhelming favourites to retain the Asian Games gold and they lived upto the billing in the pool stages, scoring a record 76 goals before the defeat in the semi-finals. The defeat sent shock waves in the Indian hockey fraternity and some even said that overconfidence let the team down, but Sreejesh begs to differ. "There is no question that we are disappointed. We the players know how hurt we are because we have performed exceedingly well through the year. The bronze is a consolation medal and it can't heal our pain," Sreejesh told PTI during an interaction. There were talks about the team being complacent but Sreejesh ..

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus says no player can feel his place is safe after Leroy Sane was dropped from the squad for the weekend's Premier League match against Newcastle. The Germany international, who arrived at City in August 2016, did not even make the bench for Saurday's 2-1 home victory for the defending champions. Sane, who was not selected in the Germany World Cup squad, had featured in City's four previous matches this season, although his only start, in the Community Shield, saw him hauled off at half-time. Reports at the weekend suggested Pep Guardiola had not been impressed with his attitude and application -- something the manager denied in his post-match press conference -- but it appears the 22-year-old has some work to do to get back into favour. Jesus admits it is a wake-up call for all the players. "It is normal with this amazing squad (a player can be left out)," said the Brazil international. "On Saturday it was Sane, but in the future, it's going to be ..
In an unusual move between two of soccer's most powerful organizations, FIFA has hired a pair of top lawyers away from UEFA. FIFA, soccer's world governing body, is run by president Gianni Infantino. He was the general secretary at UEFA, European soccer's governing body, until 2016. On Monday, former UEFA legal director Alasdair Bell and former managing director for integrity Emilio Garcia will start work at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, people familiar with the move told The Associated Press. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the hirings have not been publicly announced. FIFA declined to comment when asked about the moves on Monday. "I'm very grateful to McLaren for investing their faith in me over the past five years," Vandoorne said. "I intend to give it my all for the remaining seven races of this season, and will announce my plans for next season in due course." Vandoorne's exit could lead to McLaren's reserve driver Lando Norris taking his place next year. England's Norris, 18, has taken part in practice at the last .
A downcast Sebastian Vettel believes he can bounce back to overhaul Lewis Hamilton in this year's Formula One world championship despite trailing by 30 points after Sunday's tumultuous Italian Grand Prix. The four-time champion German admitted that he felt he and his team had let down Ferrari's passionate tifosi by failing to win after locking out the front row of the grid. But, he said, he was assured by the way in which he recovered from his first lap spin to finish fourth in a car damaged when he made contact with the triumphant Hamilton's Mercedes as the championship leader went past him at the second chicane. "It was unfortunate for us to get spun around and have a lot of damage, but it could have been also him that spins around and us carrying on," he said. "I think given I was looking the wrong way after four corners and last, finishing in fourth with effectively the same strategy as everybody else is a decent recovery with the damage we had. "When I got going again, the car ...
Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson feels that the faltering Indian batsmen will fare much better against Australia later this year compared to how they performed against England in the ongoing five-match series. Save skipper Virat Kohli (544 runs in 4 Tests) and partially Cheteshwar Pujara, most of the Indian batsmen could not perform up to their potential as England have already clinched the series with a 3-1 lead. "It is not easy to play swing bowling. Trust me when Australia travel to England for Ashes next year, it won't be easy for them also. England is the only place where the ball swings that much primarily due to conditions. You just can't land in England once every three years and be successful," Watson told PTI during an interaction. However, the former all-rounder feels that India's tour Down Under at the end of the year would be much better compared to England. "Look, if you check records, Indian batsmen of late have done well in Australia. Virat has scored loads of

Australian batsman Usman Khawaja has admitted that more exposure to white-ball cricket in recent times has helped him in improving his record in the subcontinent conditions. The comment came after the 31-year-old struck a blistering knock of 127 runs on Day One of the first-class match between Australia A and India A in Bengaluru."I've worked pretty hard over the last three or four years for subcontinent conditions or wickets that are turning. I think white-ball cricket has really helped with that, because it allows me to play with freedom, it allows me to play shots in those formats that usually you'd be a bit mindful about playing in four-day cricket, and I think that's just transformed into four-day cricket," cricket.com.au quoted Khawaja, as saying. The left-hand batsman, who scored his maiden first-class hundred in India, further stated that it is always rewarding to score in the sub-continental conditions as it is quite difficult to score runs on the turning tracks."It's always ...
