However, national champion Deepak Singh (49kg) and Kavinder Singh Bisht (56kg) signed off with silver medals after close losses. Up against a lanky opponent, who was willing to play the waiting game, Panghal started in his usual aggressive style. The strategy of stumping rivals with relentless attacks paid off against Inkyu and the Korean simply had no answer to Panghal's aggression. The Indian managed to corner his rival quite often and his ...

Tyre and suspension issues sorted, Honda Racing eye better show in ARRC

The availability of slicks in the country has negated the disadvantage of not having actual racing tyres, making Honda Racing India aim for a top-10 finish in the 2019 ARRC season. Softer Dunlop tyres are used during the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) but back in India, it is the medium MRF tyres that are used for national championships. It worked as a big disadvantage for the Indian riders as their competitors had more track time on actual tyres, going into races. A concerned Honda brought it to the notice of its tyre supplier MRF, which started to provide slick tyres along with the stock tyres. "The first season was a learning curve for us. We realised that not having Dunlop tyres in India was a big disadvantage. MRF came out to support and provided slick tyres from latter half of the season. "It has definitely helped because our riders had zero experience on slick tyres before, though the quality is not same as the Dunlop tyres,"said Prabhu Nagaraj, who looks after Honda's ...

Inswingers coming off well after county stint: Aaron

Rajasthan Royals pacer Varun Aaron credited his county stint for his improvement as a bowler, following the team's three-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL here. In an excellent new-ball spell of 3-1-10-2, Aaron removed both the Kolkata Knight Riders openers -- Chris Lynn (0) and Shubman Gill (14) -- with inswinging deliveries. "I've always bowled inswing but it's coming off a lot better after my county stint," said Aaron, who was not bought by any team for IPL 2018 and went on to play county cricket with Leicestershire, on Thursday. Aaron took full advantage of the Eden greentop and delivered a beauty to clean up Gill with a knuckle-ball that sharply cut back in. "I used to rely on my outswing a lot before. But last year when I was not playing the IPL, I played county cricket and did work on my inswing which is really handy because on wickets like these you can't get give much of room. So there's no point bowling outswing at my pace," the 29-year-old said. Aaron said he

Guardiola urges caution from City, Man Utd seek Chelsea redemption

Manchester City and Liverpool are showing no signs of letting up in their thrilling Premier League title race but their flawless form contrasts sharply with the struggles of the teams chasing a top-four finish. Manchester United host Chelsea on Sunday hoping to arrest an alarming slide of seven defeats in nine games in all competitions. But it is only thanks to the poor form of Maurizio Sarri's men and Arsenal, who have suffered back-to-back defeats against Crystal Palace and Wolves, that United remain in the hunt for Champions League football next season, just three points off the top four. United's latest defeat to City on Wednesday lifted the defending champions one point ahead of Liverpool with three games left for both sides. That stretched City's winning streak in the league to 11 games, with the last slip-up by either of the title contenders remarkably now nearly two months ago, when Liverpool were held at Everton. Liverpool have already surpassed their club-record points tally

Struggling Madrid held to goalless draw by Getafe

Real Madrid's dreary end to the season took another turn for the worse on Thursday as they were left holding on for a goalless draw away to Champions League chasers Getafe. Just 48 hours before Barcelona are set to be celebrating a 26th La Liga title at Camp Nou, Madrid drifted to a stalemate that leaves them 15 points behind the soon-to-be champions and, on this evidence, with significant ground to make up. It says something that Getafe were, in the end, disappointed not to win here, Sevilla's 5-0 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano before kick-off meaning they stay fourth, only by virtue of a superior head-to-head. Real Madrid were mathematically ruled out of the title race after Barcelona beat Alaves on Tuesday while Atletico Madrid look likely to finish above them too for a second consecutive year. Zinedine Zidane has insisted La Liga will be the club's "bread and butter" next season, their priority ahead of the Champions League after seven years with only one league title to their ...

My job to lead from front, says Dinesh Karthik after another KKR loss

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik feels that questions are bound to be raised against his captaincy after the team suffered its sixth defeat in row in the IPL but "his job is to lead from the front". The World Cup-bound Karthik regained his batting form with an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls, helping KKR recover from 49 for 3 to a challenging 176 against Rajasthan Royals here on Thursday night. However, the hosts failed to defend the total with teenager Riyan Parag (47) and Jofra Archer (27 not out) scripting a stunning three-wicket win. "It's my job to lead from the front. But sometimes the results don't go your way. So it's obviously always a tough thing to mend. But the fact is that we try hard as a team and I have belief in my boys that we'll come stronger," he said. With another loss, KKR's hopes of making the play-offs are all but over. "It is very difficult. I am not going to sit here and say 'it's okay and stuff'... It's very disappointing. We tried hard but we were just .
