ENG vs NZ: New Zealand tie T20 series 2-2, win final match by 6 wickets

New Zealand completed its comeback from 2-0 down to tie the Twenty20 series against England by winning the fourth and final match by six wickets on Tuesday. Set a victory target of 176 at Trent Bridge, the New Zealanders had a 32-ball 48 from opener Tim Seifert before Glenn Phillips accelerated the middle part of the chase with 42 off 25 balls. Mark Chapman (40 not out off 25) saw the tourists over the line with 16 balls left to cap a sharp turnaround in the series that England started so well with heavy wins in Durham and Manchester. New Zealand hammered England by 74 runs in Birmingham on Sunday to stay alive in the series and dominated the fourth match after dismissing Jonny Bairstow (73 off 41 runs, including six sixes), who gave England a fast start. From 105-1 early in the 11th over, England lost momentum following the removal of Bairstow and sputtered to 175-8, which always felt too little on a ground known for producing big totals. The teams now meet in a four-match one-da

Harmanpreet only Indian player to get picked in WBBL overseas draft

Women' team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the only Indian player to get picked in the Women's Big Bash League overseas draft, being retained by Melbourne Renegades here on Sunday. A total of 18 Indian players, including Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma, among other figured in the inaugural WBBL overseas draft but none got picked. Placed in the platinum category, Harmanpreet was retained by the Renegades along with Hayley Matthews of the West Indies. Harmanpreet performed remarkably for the Renegades during the 2021-22 season, scoring 406 runs in 12 innings at an average of 58.00 and a strike rate of 130.96, including three half-centuries and a top score of 81 not out. She was also effective with the ball, taking 15 wickets at an economy of 7.45, with best figures of 3 for 22. Harmanpreet had made her WBBL debut with Sydney Thunder in 2016-17. Speaking on Harmanpreet's retention, Renegades head coach Simon Helmot stated, "I'm so pleased we got both of them ...

South Africa vs Australia: Aussies win T20 series with a game to spare

Australia clinched the Twenty20 series against South Africa with a game to spare after another thumping win at Kingsmead. Following rain during the day, Australia chose to bowl and restricted the host to 164-8 on a fresh pitch. The Australians minced the chase, lashing 165-2 to win by eight wickets with 31 balls remaining. Captain Mitch Marsh finished the rout with 76 not out after a career-best 92 not out on Wednesday. Matthew Short added a career-best 66 off 30 balls. Australia won the first T20 by 111 runs. The third and last game is on Sunday. The chase was over in a blink. Travis Head hit South Africa captain Aiden Markram for three boundaries in one over in his 18. Fellow opener Short lashed Lungi Ngidi's second over for 20 runs. Marsh went after left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin for 18 runs in one over. The batters backed off spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, but Short raised his fifty amid smacking fast bowler Gerald Coetzee for four consecutive boundaries capped by a pulled six. T

Ashwin calls UAE's win over New Zealand a big impact of franchise cricket

Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday hailed United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s stunning win over New Zealand in a T20I, saying it underlines the impact of franchise cricket and gives hopes to next generation of cricketers from non-Test playing nations. UAE on Saturday registered their maiden win over New Zealand, humbling the Kiwis by seven wickets in the second T20I in Dubai. "UAE beating New Zealand is a big achievement and it's also showing us what franchisee cricket has succeeded in doing," Ashwin wrote in a post in social media platform 'X', formerly twitter. "There is hope for the next generation cricketer coming from countries that aren't mainstream test nations and that's good news for the game." Opting to bow, UAE restricted New Zealand to 142-8 and then overhauled the target, scoring 144 for 3 in 15.4 overs with skipper Muhammad Waseem (55) and Asif Khan (48) steering the chase. Giving Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan's example, Ashwin hoped more players will join I

Very easy to criticise for T20I series loss on social media: R Ashwin

The critical analysis of India's loss to the West Indies in the T20I series has not gone down well with veteran cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin who feels there were several positives as well despite the defeat. India lost the closely-contested T20I series 2-3 after winning the Test and ODI series, but losing to a side that failed to qualify for the Super 12s during the 2022 T20 World Cup, has critics targeting Hardik Pandya's side. "Obviously, after losing the series, many of them are criticising (the team) and (are) upset. It's understandable. But we can see this loss from two perspectives. Many players did well for India," said Ashwin on his YouTube channel. Ashwin felt it's not easy for any youngster to go and perform on foreign soil straightaway. "It is very easy to criticise the team on social media since they lost to a side that did not qualify for the last T20 World Cup (Super 12) and the 50-over World Cup (in India this year). In all countries, there will be some innate secre

Shaheen Afridi signs three-year deal with ILT20 franchise Desert Vipers

Star left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi has signed a three-year contract with Desert Vipers for the second season of the UAE's ILT20, and will become the first Pakistan player to play in the league in January next year. "I am excited to join the Desert Vipers. I know there are many Pakistan cricket fans in the UAE and I hope they will support our team in the upcoming ILT20," Afridi said in a statement. The next season of ILT20 is scheduled to begin on January 13, and Afridi could join the team after returning from Australia. The Vipers had tried to sign a few players from Pakistan last year as well but those attempts didn't materialise. Last year, Vipers had signed Azam Khan, which would have made him the first Pakistan player in the ILT20, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not grant him the no-objection certificate to play in the league. The PCB's current chairman Zaka Ashraf has, however, is allowing players to participate in various T20 leagues. "Shaheen is undeniably a play

Need to find depth in our batting: Dravid after T20 series loss to Windies

India head coach Rahul Dravid has stressed on the need to add batting depth following the 2-3 loss to the West Indies in the T20 series. India played the series with a long tail comprising Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar. Spin all-rounder Axar Patel batted at number seven. In the series decider, India failed to accelerate in the death overs to end up with a below par 165/9. West Indies overhauled the target with two overs to spare. "I think in terms of our squad here, probably it didn't allow us the flexibility in some ways to be able to change the combinations a little bit. But I think going forward, we've got to look at certain areas in which we can get better. "Finding depth in our batting has been an area we are trying to address. We are trying to do the best we possibly can but that's certainly an area we can look at, how we cannot weaken our bowling attack but ensure we have a certain amount of depth in batting," said Dravid on Sunday. WI vs IND 4th T20: Very happy with how Mukesh has progressed says Mhambrey

India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey says pacer Mukesh Kumar has shown potential to serve India in all three formats and his workload will be managed accordingly. The rookier pacer got to make his debut in all three formats on the tour of West Indies. Speaking ahead of the fourth T20I in Florida, Mhambrey expressed satisfaction with Mukesh's progress. "Very happy with the way he has progressed; the thought process, the discussion we had with him and his approach towards the game is fabulous. "You need someone like him to come here on a tour and play against tough opponents on a different wicket which is never easy. But the way he has gone about it and the character he has shown (makes us) extremely happy. "Going forward, since we know he is capable of playing all three formats, we need to be smart with his workload management. He has played a lot of domestic cricket and got quality skills out there," Mhambrey said on Friday. Compared to the slow wickets in the Caribbean, the bowlin

WI vs IND 4th T20 Preview: Openers in focus as India aim to level series

India will hope that batsmen will helm their march towards a series-levelling victory over the West Indies with another impact effort in the fourth T20 International here on Saturday. India might have stayed afloat with a win in the third T20I but Windies still lead the series 2-1, a quick reminder to the fact that the visitors still have concerns surrounding the batting unit. It was a comforting sight indeed to see Suryakumar Yadav flicking on his beast mode and Tilak Varma chipping in with crucial runs. But India's opening combination continued to falter. India had handed T20I debut to Yashasvi Jaiswal, resting Ishan Kishan. But for the third successive match, the pair at the totem pole position failed to impress, making just six runs. Jaiswal got out to pacer Obed McCoy in the first over itself. In the previous two matches, Kishan and Shubman Gill had managed to score just five and 16 for the first wicket to place some amount of pressure on the middle-order. Whether India will

Uthappa not happy with BCCI's cooling off period for retired cricketers

A cooling-off period for retired Indian cricketers who want to play in overseas T20 leagues would be "uncomfortable and unfair", reckons former India international Robin Uthappa. The BCCI has been mulling a cooling-off period which would prevent players from joining overseas leagues right after their retirement. However, no decision has been taken yet. Uthappa, who retired from international and IPL cricket last year, was recently part of the T10 league in Zimbabwe. He also took part in the ILT20 in the UAE. I think it is human nature to feel uncomfortable about it. We do not have any central contract with the BCCI, we are not playing cricket in India anymore so it certainly does make you feel a little uncomfortable and unfair for sure, Uthappa replied to a PTI query during an interaction organised by Jio Cinema. Having said that, the BCCI has certainly looked after all of us. I am certain whatever decision they take will be in the best interest of the BCCI and the players who are
