RIL to develop multi-modal logistics park in Tamil Nadu, says govt

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has been awarded the work to develop the first multi-modal logistics park (MMLP) at Mappedu in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, the government said on Friday. MMLP Chennai at Mappedu is being developed in an area of 184.27 acres. "MoRTH has made significant progress under this National Master Plan and embarking on the same, MMLP Chennai at Mappedu being developed in 184.27 acres is 1st MMLP awarded to Reliance Industries Ltd for which prime minister laid the foundation stone," the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) said in a statement. Under the 'PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP)', the road transport ministry is developing 35 multi-modal logistics parks, out of which 15 MMLPs are prioritised in the next three years. Rains pound TN, flights not affected; low pressure over Bay of Bengal: IMD

Widespread rains, moderate to heavy, lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu on Friday and the India Meteorological Department said a well marked low pressure area lay over Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, rainfall is expected till November 13 and it could be heavy to very heavy in select regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the IMD said. Almost all parts of Chennai, the neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet, coastal regions falling under Villupuram, Cuddalore, the Cauvery Delta zone regions including Thanjavur district and southern Ramanathapuram as well experienced rainfall. Intermittent showers began on the night of Thursday and it intensified in several regions of the State, leading to waterlogging and disruption in vehicular movement like on the Avadi-Poonamallee stretch. Governor vs government face-off intensifies in three southern states

Friction between Governors and the ruling dispensation in three non-BJP ruled southern states escalated on Wednesday, with Tamil Nadu seeking a recall of R N Ravi, Kerala proposing the ordinance route to replace Arif Mohammed Khan as Chancellor of state varsities, and Tamilisai Soundararajan expressing doubts of her phone being tapped in Telangana. Active Covid-19 case load drops below 1,000 in Tamil Nadu: Health Dept

Tamil Nadu has reported 104 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the overall tally to 35,93,023, the Health department said on Tuesday. There were no fresh fatalities and the death toll remained unchanged at 38,048 a medical bulletin said here. As many as 169 people recovered in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 35,54,067 leaving 908 active infections. Chennai added 26 new COVID-19 cases, Chengalpet and Kanyakumari 10 each while the remaining cases were spread across districts. Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Karur, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, Theni, Thirupathur and Thiruvarur recorded zero new cases each. The state capital leads among districts with 216 active infections and overall 7,92,898 coronavirus cases. A total of 8,126 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of tests so far to 6,98,41,367, the bulletin said.

Tamil Nadu notifies Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary as 17th sanctuary

The Tamil Nadu government has notified the Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary on 68,640 hectares as the state's 17th wildlife sanctuary, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Tuesday. The sanctuary, covering reserve forest areas in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts, is home to 35 species of mammals, 238 species of birds, Leith's soft shelled turtles, smooth coated otters, marsh crocodile and four horned antelopes, and is a wildlife paradise. Grizzled giant squirrel, four-horned antelope, and Lesser Fish Eagle which are exclusively dependent on the Cauvery river and its riverine forest ecosystem, are also found here. These are also red-listed and in urgent need for focused conservation and protection of their habitat. The sanctuary was notified under Section 26-A of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, today. The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announced convening a meeting of various legislature parties on November 12 to discuss the next course of action following the Supreme Court upholding the 10 per cent EWS quota. Chief Minister M K Stalin will chair the meeting. SC verdict on EWS a setback to century-long social justice struggle: Stalin

The Supreme Court judgment upholding 10 per cent reservation to people belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS) in upper caste in admissions and government jobs is a setback to the century-long social justice struggle, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Monday. Tamil Nadu reports 119 new coronavirus infections in last 24 hours

Tamil Nadu has reported 119 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 35,92,696 till date, the Department of Health said on Saturday. There were no fresh fatalities and the overall death toll remained unchanged at 38,048, a bulletin said here. As many as 204 people got recuperated from the virus in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 35,53,509 leaving 1,139 active infections. Chennai added 30 new cases to the tally while the rest were spread across other districts. Eight of the 38 districts reported zero new cases. The State capital leads among districts with 249 active infections and overall 7,92,816 cases. A total of 8,664 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of tests to 6,98,16,827 so far, said the bulletin.

Tamil Nadu reported 128 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, taking the tally to 35,92,454 till date. There were no fatalities today. The death toll continued to be at 38,048. Mamata Banerjee hints at discussing political issues with M K Stalin today

West Bengal Cheif Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday hinted that she may discuss political issues and collaboration with other regional parties at her courtesy call on her Tamil Nadu counterpart MK Stalin, slated for this evening. Describing her call on the DMK strongman as a courtesy, she, however, added, when two politicians meet, some politics are always discussed. She was speaking to reporters at Kolkata airport before leaving for Chennai.
