iFixit removes Galaxy Fold teardown on Samsung's request

In just a day of publishing, repair firm iFixit removed its teardown of Samsung's first foldable smartphone, Galaxy Fold, on the company's request.On its official blog, iFixit explained that the Samsung Galaxy Fold unit they received was through a trusted third party, fuelling suspicions about the unit being an underdeveloped version of the anticipated smartphone, or probably the device is actually as fragile as the teardown discovered, much to Samsung's disappointment.It is unclear if Samsung is reworking on the Galaxy Fold's design and durability before it ships to the consumers. In its teardown, iFixit gave it a score of 2/10 on the repairability scale owing to its fragility, making it difficult to repair.

Google Pixel 3a leaks in faint lavender colour

Ahead of the official unveiling at the Google I/O 2019, the Pixel 3a continues to show up in leaks. In the latest, a somewhat purple coloured variant of the mid-range smartphone has been spotted online.Serial tipster Evan Blass tweeted a picture of the Google Pixel 3a in a color that has purple undertones. It features a yellow button on the side. The latest colour adds to the previously leaked black and white variants.The Pixel 3a is going to be Google's budget offering. It is expected to be available in two display sizes- 5.6-inch and 6-inch. It is likely to include 4GB of RAM, Snapdragon 670 SoC, 3,000mAh battery, and 12-megapixel rear camera. Apple recalls AC wall plug adapters over electrical shock concerns

Apple is recalling AC wall plug adapters in select regions over concerns of causing electrical shock, the company announced in an official blog.Apple explained that in very rare cases, the three-prong wall plug adapter may break and create a risk of shock if touched. The company is aware of six incidents worldwide.The iPhone maker said that the adapters designed for use in Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Kingdom are being voluntarily recalled.These adapters shipped with Mac and certain iOS devices between 2003 and 2010, and were also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit. Users can head to Apple's support page for details on how to exchange an affected plug adapter.

India-domiciled cos filed over 4,600 patents in US between 2015-2018: Nasscom

India-domiciled companies filed over 4,600 patents in the US between 2015-2018, a majority of which were from the technology domain, a report by industry body Nasscom said Friday. The report titled 'Emerging Technologies: Leading the Next Wave of IP Creation for India' highlighted how companies in India are creating intellectual property (IP) assets in the US, which is one of the most favoured destinations for filing patents. Interestingly, Indian start-ups have filed nearly 200 patents in the US during 2015-18, and a majority of these focused on emerging technology areas including image processing, artificial intelligence, cyber security, vehicle technology and Internet of Things (IoT). Overall, the share of technology patents from India-domiciled companies has consistently increased to 64.8 per cent in 2017-18 from 51 per cent in 2015, the report said. Facebook sues New Zealand company to thwart fake likes

Facebook on Thursday filed a lawsuit in US federal court to bar a New Zealand company from selling fake "likes," views and followers to Instagram users. The company and three people targeted in the lawsuit operated a service to raise the profile of Instagram accounts by bolstering them with bogus followers, views and "likes," Facebook director of platform enforcement and litigation Jessica Romero said in a blog post. "By filing the lawsuit, we are sending a message that this kind of fraudulent activity is not tolerated on our services, and we will act to protect the integrity of our platform," Romero said. Romero did not identify the company or the individuals names in the legal complaint, which accused them of using fake businesses and websites to sell "engagement services" to Instagram users looking to buy status. 3 held for impersonating Microsoft representatives

Three men were arrested for allegedly extorting money from several schools here by impersonating Microsoft's representatives, police said Thursday. Based on a complaint lodged by Neeraj Kumar, an authorised representative of Microsoft Corporation, a case was registered in the matter, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ram Gopal Naik. The complainant had also provided the information about one such incident of a school in Timarpur, where the alleged persons had tried to extort money from the school management. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the accused from Sector-8 in Rohini on Wednesday. The accused were identified as Abhinav Jain, a resident of Saraswati Vihar, Ishan Garg, a resident of Alipur Village and Deepak, a resident of Kirari, police said. Canada privacy watchdog rebukes Facebook

Canada's privacy commissioner said Thursday Facebook broke the law when it harvested data from 600,000 citizens -- and vowed to go to court to force reforms at the social networking giant. Daniel Therrien's findings were the result of an investigation into the California tech company's role in a worldwide data scandal involving the now-defunct British consultancy Cambridge Analytica. HC directive to TN govt to hold meet with social media companies

The Madras High Court directed the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday to convene a meeting of law enforcement agencies and representatives of social media platforms next month to discuss issues relating to sharing of user data and how cyber crimes could be tackled more effectively. A division bench of justices S Manikumar and Subramonium Prasad gave the direction after the counsel for the state government claimed that online messaging app WhatsApp was less responsive compared to other social networking platforms when it came to cooperation with law enforcement agencies. The bench was hearing a plea moved by Anthony Clement Rubin seeking a direction to the Centre to link Aadhaar with e-mail IDs and other online user accounts, including those on social networking websites, for easier detection of cyber crimes.
