EAM Jaishankar meets Blinken in Italy, discusses India-US partnership

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and discussed the state of the world and the India-US partnership, which continues to move forward. The 69-year-old union minister, who is in Italy on an official visit from November 24-26 to participate in the Outreach session of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, met Blinken in Fiuggi. "Always good to meet @SecBlinken, this time in Fiuggi, Italy. Discussed the state of the world and India-US partnership, which continues to move forward," he said in a post on X. Earlier, the external affairs minister met South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul. Pleasure to meet @FMChoTaeyul of RoK at the G7 FMM in Fiuggi. Consul General of the United States of America in Mumbai, Mike Hankey, on Friday said the US and India can forge "different types of partnerships", and noted that there are possibilities of cooperation in electric vehicle manufacturing and green energy sectors. India leads international student enrolments in US after 15 years: Report

More than 3.3 lakh Indians are studying in the US, making India the "top sender" of international students to America for the first time in 15 years, according to the Open Doors Report 2024 released on Monday. In the academic year 2022-23, the leading source country for international students in the US was China followed by India. According to the latest Open Doors Report, the number of Indian students studying in the US in the academic year 2023-24 is at an "all-time high" at 3,31,602, a rise of 23 per cent from 2022-23 when the number stood at 2,68,923. "India is now the leading country of origin for international students in the United States, accounting for 29 per cent of the total international student population," according to a note shared by the US Embassy on the Open Doors Report 2024. Over 1,400 antiquities valued $10 million to be returned to India from US

At least 1,440 antiquities collectively valued at USD 10 million will be returned to India, a statement has said. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., in a statement on Wednesday, said the pieces recovered under several ongoing investigations into criminal trafficking networks, including those of alleged antiquities trafficker Subhash Kapoor and convicted trafficker Nancy Wiener, were returned at a ceremony with Manish Kulhary from the Consulate General of India here and Alexandra deArmas, Group Supervisor from the Homeland Security Investigation of New York Cultural Property, Art, and Antiquities Group. Bragg announced the return of 1,440 antiquities collectively valued at USD 10 million to the people of India, according to the statement. India's trade relations with the US will continue to grow irrespective of the change in regime in America, a top government official said on Thursday. According to the commerce ministry data, India's exports to the US jumped to USD 39.2 billion in October against USD 21.46 billion in October 2015. During 2001-23, at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), India's exports to America rose by 10.48 per cent. In this period, the US imports from the world have grown by 4.76 per cent.
