Varanasi court to hear plea seeking worship of Shivling at Gyanvapi mosque

A court here is likely to hear on Friday a plea seeking worship of 'Shivling' in the Gyanvapi mosque complex, Assistant District Government Counsel Sulabh Prakash said. On November 17, the fast-track court had rejected the Gyanvapi Masjid committee's objection to a petition seeking right to worship the 'Shivling' claimed to have been found in the mosque complex and fixed December 2 for hearing the case. UP court orders police to arrest ex-min Chinmayanand, produce him on Dec 9

A special MP-MLA court here has directed the police to arrest former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand Saraswati and produce him before it on December 9 after he failed to appear despite a Supreme Court order. The court issued an arrest warrant against Chinmayanand in a case of sexual exploitation lodged against him by his disciple at a police station here, special government counsel Neelima Saxena told PTI on Thursday. His advocate gave an application saying Chinmayanand has filed an application for anticipatory bail in the high court, which is to be heard on December 6. Therefore, he should be given time to appear, but Judge Asma Sultana refused to give time, Saxena said. The judge said Chinmayanand was given time to surrender on November 30 by the Supreme Court but he did not appear, so this period cannot be extended. Phase out diesel autos in NCR by 2026: Centre to UP, Rajasthan, Haryana

The Centre's air quality panel has directed Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana to register only CNG and electric autos from January 1 and complete the phase out of the diesel ones in the National Capital Region by the end of 2026. The Commission for Air Quality Management issued an order on Wednesday, saying the target was that only CNG and e-autos ply in the NCR from January 1, 2027. It directed the three states to ensure registration of only CNG and e-autos from January 1 in the NCR and phase out diesel autos in a graded manner by the end of 2026. The NCR covers Delhi, 14 districts of Haryana, eight districts of Uttar Pradesh and two districts of Rajasthan. Delhi had launched a programme in 1998 to convert its fleet of diesel auto rickshaws into CNG ones. No diesel-run auto is registered in Delhi at present. The Delhi Transport Department had launched a scheme in October last year for registration of 4,261 e-autos.

The survey for acquisition of land for the second phase of the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) is expected to begin in two weeks from now, according to officials. Currently, construction work is underway for the first phase of the Greenfield airport in Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar as the Uttar Pradesh government recently gave its go ahead for land acquisition for the second phase, they said. The second phase of the NIA is planned in an area of 1,365 hectare, of which around 1,185 hectare is owned by private persons, including farmers, of six villages -- Ranhera, Kureb, Dayanatpur, Karauli Bangar, Mundrah, and Birampur , an official said. The land is being acquired under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
