UP govt declares 4 villages near Nepal border as revenue villages

The Uttar Pradesh government declared four villages located near the Nepal border in the district as revenue villages, an official said on Sunday. District Magistrate of Bahraich, Dinesh Chandra Singh said the decision was taken before the announcement of the general elections to the UP Legislative Assembly. These four villages are Bhavanipur, Tedhia, Dhakia and Bichhia located in Mihinpurwa tehsil of the district. All these villages are Vantangiya villages. The Vantangiya' community comprises people brought from Myanmar during the colonial rule to plant trees. A revenue village is a small administrative region with defined borders. One revenue village may contain many hamlets. A village administrative officer is the head officer of a revenue village. Singh said the decision in this regard was taken on January 3 at a meeting presided over by the chief secretary, and the letter was received on January 8. Elections to start from western UP on Feb 10, notification on Jan 14

Voting for the high-stakes Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be held in seven phases, starting from the western part of the politically crucial state on February 10 and moving eastwards. Punjab (117 seats), Uttarakhand (70 seats) and Goa (40 seats) will have single-day voting on February 14, coinciding with the second phase of polls in UP, according to the schedule announced by the Election Commission. For Manipur, the poll panel has decided to conduct voting in two phases - 38 seats on February 27 and 22 seats on March 3 - coinciding with fifth and sixth phases of UP polls. The final phase of voting will be on March 7 and votes for all phases would be counted on March 10. In Uttar Pradesh, voting will take place in 58 assembly constituencies, covering 11 western districts, out of the 403 seats in the first phase on February 10. The second phase to be held on February 14 will cover 55 seats, the third phase of voting will cover 59 seats on February 20, while the fourth phase .

721 new Covid-19 infections in Noida, active cases highest in UP

Gautam Buddh Nagar on Friday logged 721 new COVID-19 infections that pushed the number of active cases in the district to 2,404, the highest in Uttar Pradesh, official data showed. Gautam Buddh Nagar's tally of active cases is followed by Ghaziabad (1,767) and Lucknow (1,718) and Meerut (1,207), with the four being the only districts in the state to have more than 1,000 active cases, the statistics showed. So far Gautam Buddh Nagar district has recorded 468 deaths due to the pandemic, none of them in the third wave. Meanwhile, 21,165 people got vaccinated for coronavirus in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Friday, District Immunisation Officer Dr. Neeraj Tyagi said.
