Kannauj building collapse: All workers rescued after 16-hour operation

All 28 workers trapped under the rubble of a collapsed under-construction building at Kannauj railway station were pulled out safely after a 16-hour-long overnight operation, officials said on Sunday. Of the rescued workers, 26 of them have been admitted to various hospitals in Kannauj, while the rest two with serious injuries shifted to the Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Kanpur, they said. The two workers admitted at the LLR Hospital are out of danger, hospital sources said. One of them has a head injury while another sustained leg injury, as per the sources. No fatalities have been reported, the officials said. The shuttering of the under-construction building on the station premises had collapsed Saturday afternoon, trapping the workers. The rescue teams, including personnel from the national and state disaster response forces and the railways, worked through the cold night to clear the debris and safely pull out the trapped workers. An under-construction building at the Kannauj railway station collapsed on Saturday afternoon, trapping around two dozen workers under the rubble, a senior official said. Six workers have been rescued and rushed to hospital. "According to preliminary information, the incident occurred when the under-construction shuttering of the roof collapsed," said District Magistrate (DM) Shubhrant Kumar Shukl said. SC issues notice in Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid dispute, orders status quo

The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice on a plea by the Sambhal's Jama Masjid management committee, and ordered status quo with regard to a private well located near the entrance of the mosque. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar directed that no steps be taken regarding the well without its permission and instructed the authorities to file a status report within two weeks. The plea filed by the Committee of Management of Shahi Jama Masjid challenged a November 19, 2024 order by the Sambhal Senior Division Civil Judge that allowed the appointment of an advocate commissioner to survey the mosque. 'Explain why aren't you liable': HC summons DM, SP in Hathras stampede case

The Allahabad High Court has directed the then district magistrate and senior superintendent of police of Hathras to personally appear on January 15 and explain why they should not be held liable for the stampede in 2024 that claimed 121 lives. Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav on January 6 said such incidents were the result of poor arrangements made by the organisers. "The organisers call innocent people for their benefit and due to lack of proper arrangements, such incidents happen. Sambhal court to hear Jama Masjid-Harihar temple case on March 5
