Cold wave conditions return to Kashmir Valley

Cold wave conditions returned to Kashmir as the minimum temperatures on Friday night plunged several degrees below freezing point, which resulted in formation of black ice on the roads in the valley, hampering the movement of traffic, officials said Saturday. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 5.7 degrees Celsius on Friday night, registering a drop of nearly five degrees compared to the previous night, an official at the MeT Department said. Gulmarg ski-resort in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the valley as the mercury plunged to minus 14.4 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 12.7 degrees Celsius, he said. Qazigund recorded a low of minus 9.0 degrees Celsius while Kupwara and Kokernag registered minimum temperatures of minus 7.4 and minus 7.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. The sudden dip in the night temperature was due to clear skies overnight, which led to formation of black ice on the roads in the .

Slight improvement in Delhi's air, Fog predicted in next few days

Clear skies in Delhi, minimum temp settles at 7 deg C

The national capital witnessed clear skies on Friday a day after heavy rains and hailstrom lashed the city, with the minimum temperature settling at 7 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average. The maximum temperature was recorded at 20.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal, a Met department official said. The Safdarjung observatory, whose reading is considered the official figure for the city, recorded 4.8mm rainfall and the Palam observatory registered 30.4 mm rainfall till 8.30 am. Relative humidity oscillated between 100 and 56 per cent. The weatherman has forecast moderate foggy conditions on Saturday morning followed by clear skies. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 20 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius respectively," the MeT office said.

Minimum temperatures drop in Pb, Har; Hisar coldest at 4.2 degrees Celsius

A day after heavy rains lashed Punjab and Haryana, minimum temperatures, which had risen few notches above normal limits for past three days, dropped again on Friday, MeT officials said. Hisar in Haryana was the coldest place in the two states recording a minimum of 4.2 degrees Celsius, a Meteorological (MeT) Department official said here. Narnaul reeled at a low of 4.8 degrees while Sirsa recorded a low of 5.5 degrees Celsius. Both, Rohtak and Bhiwani, recorded a below normal low of 6.4 degrees Celsius each.Ambala registered a low of 9 degrees Celsius. Union Territory Chandigarh, which was lashed by heavy rains on Thursday, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Adampur was the coldest place at a low of 5 degrees while Pathankot registered a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius. Rain, hail brings down temperature in Rajasthan

Minimum temperature dropped by 3 to 5 degree Celsius at most of places in Rajasthan on Friday due to rainfall and hail storm in the region, a MeT official said. Cold wave conditions prevailed in Pali, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Dabok and Bikaner, he said. According to MeT department, Bharatpur tehsil recorded 9 mm rainfall till 8 am on Friday. Kumher recorded 13 mm rain, Sepau and Dholpur 1 mm each, 1.6 mm in Hanumangarh, 1.9 mm in Sriganganagar, 2 mm in Karanpur. Minimum temperature in the desert state's only hill station, Mount Abu, was - 1.4 degree Celsius below freezing point. Heavy rains, hailstorm lash parts of Punjab; Amarinder orders 'girdawari' to assess crop loss

Moderate to heavy rains accompanied by hailstorm lashed parts of Punjab Thursday, with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh ordering a 'special girdawari' (revenue survey) to assess the damage caused to the crops. The rainfall started in the morning and continued during the day, leading to a sharp fall in maximum temperatures. Many parts of Haryana were also witnessed rains. In Punjab, districts like Mohali, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Jalandhar witnessed rainfall. Chandigarh witnessed heavy showers during the day as well. There were reports of hailstorm lashing a few places in Punjab, including Chandigarh. Hailstrom, heavy rainfall lashes Delhi, adjoining areas

Heavy rains and hailstrom accompanied by strong winds lashed the city on Thursday and brought the mercury down by four to five notches. The minimum temperature settled at 15 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season's average and the maximum temperature was recorded at 19.1 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average. Delhi recorded 3.2 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm. Humidity level oscillated between 100 and 89 per cent. Fresh snowfall in hills intensifies cold in U'khand

High altitude areas in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand received fresh snowfall and the lower areas were lashed by rains on Thursday, intensifying cold conditions across the state. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Hemkund Sahib, besides Nanda Devi National Park and skiing destination Auli received fresh snowfall, Met department said. Many areas in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh districts were laid under thick sheets of snow, it said. Lower areas in the hills as well as the plains were simultaneously swept by showers, intensifying the chill, the weatherman said. It has been raining intermittently in Dehradun since Wednesday evening, it said. Schools and colleges in several districts including Chamoli and Rudraprayag remained closed in view of the inclement weather. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre here, the Sonprayag-Kedarnath trek route to the Himalayan shrine was closed after being clogged with snow. Efforts are underway to reopen it .

HP witnesses widespread rain, snowfall forecast for Friday

Widespread rainfall occurred in Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours with Chamba being the wettest place in the state, the meteorological department said Thursday. The department has forecast heavy snowfall and rain in the state till Friday. Chamba received 47 mm of rain, followed by 42.8 mm in Dharamshala, 34 mm in Palampur, 25.7 mm in Kangra and 21.6 mm in Una, it said. The department said Manali recorded 14 mm rain and Dalhousie 8 mm. Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place in the state with the minimum temperature recorded at minus 7.6 degrees Celsius, it said. The minimum temperatures in Kalpa was minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees Celsius in Dalhousie, zero degrees Celsius in Kufri, 0.4 degrees Celsius in Manali and 4.3 degrees Celsius in Shimla, the MeT department said.

Overcast conditions in Delhi, forecast for thundershowers along with hail

Overcast skies prevailed in the national capital on Thursday morning, with the meteorological department forecasting thundershowers along with hail later in the day. The mercury climbed a few notches to settle at 15 degrees Celsius and parts of the city received rainfall of 0.1 mm since Wednesday night. The minimum temperature was recorded at 15 degrees Celsius, according to the MeT Department. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 25 degrees Celsius, it said. As per forecast for the day, thundershowers along with hail is expected during the day. Relative humidity was 89 per cent in the morning.
