Ahmedabad sees slowest online recruitment in April 2012

With employment rate moderating in several cities, Ahmedabad witnessed the slowest online recruitment activity with a dip of 11 per cent, as per the latest Monster Employment Index for the month of April.

A monthly gauge of online job posting activity, Monster Employment Index is based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career Web sites and online job listings across India. The Index does not reflect the trend of any one advertiser or source, but is an aggregate measure of the change in job listings across the industry

Among the 13 major cities covered under the index, both Ahmedabad and Vadodara witnessed the lowest growths in online recruitments at -11 per cent and -8 per cent, respectively. Location-wise, Kochi (up 23 per cent) followed by Coimbatore (up 21 per cent) led all cities in annual growth. Among major metro-areas, Bangalore (up 13 per cent), Delhi- NCR (up six per cent) and Hyderabad (up five per cent) registered positive annual growth.

 

However, in terms of sectors, NGO/Social Services (up 30 per cent) recorded the highest growth, followed by healthcare, bio technology and life sciences. "Though the pace of growth has moderated; sectors like healthcare, medical manufacturing, textiles, and even financial services have exhibited positive growth momentum," said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director Monster.com (India/ Middle East/ South East Asia).

About 24 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the Monster Employment Index registered expansion in recruitment activity between April 2011 and April 2012.

On one hand garments/ textiles/ leather, gems & jewellery (up 24 per cent), healthcare, bio technology & life sciences, pharmaceuticals (up 19 per cent), shipping/marine (up 18 per cent), import/export (up 15 per cent) sectors maintained an upward trend in online recruitment activity between April 2011 and April 2012.

However, on the other hand, production and manufacturing (down five per cent) continued to show decline followed by government/ PSU/defence (down 12 per cent).
