New Zealand cricketer BJ Watling said that his partnership with Trent Boult was a crucial necessity on the flat Chittagong wicket during the second day of the first Test between the two nations.

Boult joined Watling with New Zealand 342-9 at Chittagong and took the visitors through to 469 before Bangladesh recovered from 8-2 to reach stumps at 103-2, still 363 in arrears.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Watling scored his second Test hundred off 171 balls, while Boult scored his maiden first-class half century.

Stating that his side had felt that 350 would have been a poor score on the flat Chittagong wicket, Watling said that his partnership with Boult was very much needed as on that wicket, 400 is quite a par score, adding that he enjoyed scoring the hundred in the subcontinent.

The report mentioned that Boult and Watling were together for 32 overs and their 127-run partnership, which is the equal-ninth highest 10th wicket stand in Test cricket, eventually ended after Watling was stumped off the bowling of part-timer Mominul Haque.
