The Coast Guard today rescued four crew members of a fishing boat that was adrift at sea off Odisha coast since January 17 due to engine failure.

The missing report of fishing boat 'Maa Dipti' was forwarded to the Coast Guard by the assistant fisheries officer at Mahakapara on January 20.

The boat with registration no ORM-KP(M)-9338 departed Kharinasi on January 12 and the crew was not in communication with the owner since January 17.

An extensive search and rescue operation was launched by the CG on January. CG Ship 'Amogh' on patrol was directed to undertake search along the coast and a Coast Guard Dornier was launched on January 21 and 22 for sea-air coordinated search operation.

"The boat was located 58 nm east off Gopalpur coast at 11:30 AM on January 22 by the Dornier. ICGS Amogh was vectored by the Dornier and the ship reached in vicinity of the boat at 4:30 PM," the force said.

All four crew on board were safe and provided with initial first aid. The boat was towed by the Coast Guard ship and handed over off Paradip fishing harbour to the owner today.
