A woman allegedly threw her five- year-old son from the 11th floor of a newly-constructed apartment here and then jumped off the building herself, police said.

The mother and son were killed of the fall, Senior superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar said, adding Jaya Agarwal (33) took the extreme step after a severe schizophrenic attack.

"Jaya along with her husband, Pawan Agarwal, a chartered accountant, and two sons, Parth (7) and Utkarsh (5), visited their newly owned flat.

"Prima facie, she suffered a severe psychosis attack there and threw her son from the balcony of the 11th floor of the apartments," he said.

Pawan rushed towards his son on hearing him screaming, Kumar said.

On hearing a loud thud, apartments residents rushed out and found the boy lying in a pool of blood, the SSP said.

While Pawan was trying with the help of others to take Utkarsh to a hospital, Jaya fell on the ground, he said.

Both the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, the police said.
