The Justice Department has sent civil subpoenas to America Online Inc and MCI Communications Corp as part of its anti-trust investigation against Micro-soft Corp, the Wall Street Journal said on Friday. The subpoenas appear to focus on whether the Internet providers agreed to favour Microsoft's Internet Explorer product over archrival Netscape Communications Corp's browser, the Journal said. The move confirms that investigators are examining additional channels Microsoft uses to distribute its Internet Explorer software.
