Buoyant Trend Continues On Hectic Activity

The buoyancy witnessed in the stock markets in the past one week continued unabated yesterday and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) 50 index gained 21.00 points. Nifty closed at 1159.80 against the previous close of 1138.80 before touching a intra-day high of 1171.00. The Midcap index gained 18.90 points to close at 1187.80 points against the previous close of 1168.90 points.

The total traded turnover on the exchange touched Rs 1,859.77 with nearly 6.93 crore changing hands during yesterdays trading. According to sources, the market is likely to witness a slight correction in the days to come. The market has witnessed unprecented spurt in activity in the past few days, hence a correction of 100-odd points should not come as a surprise, informed a NSE dealer.

 

Among the top five gainers during yesterdays trading were, G E Shipping, which closed at Rs 49.90 (Rs 38.20), Ponds India at Rs 1831 against the previous close of Rs 1711.45, SBI, which closed at Rs 341.65 against the previous close of Rs 323.00, Tisco closed at Rs 196.10 (Rs 185.60) and TVS -Suzuki closed at Rs 430.10 against the previous close of Rs 409.50.

The ITC scrip topped the list securities which witnessed highest traded volume followed by SBI and Reliance. The ITC scrip closed at Rs 501.95 against the previous close of Rs 501.95 with traded turnover touching Rs 432.63.

The total traded turnover at SBI counter touched Rs 337.69. the scrip closed at Rs 323.00 against the previous close of Rs 341.65. The OBC scrip closed lower at Rs 79.05 against the previous close of Rs 83.05. The scrip was amongst the top five losers during trading. Among the top losers were, Bajaj Auto, which closed at Rs 928.05 (Rs 945.50), Hindalco was at Rs 955.60.
