Competition is sure hotting up in the Rs 1,200 crore beauty business which is growing at 20 per cent per annum. This fast growing market is made up of three segments coloured cosmetics (Rs 250 crore), talcum powders (Rs 350 crore) and skin care(Rs 600). And most of the action has been in skin care. While the Ponds, Lakme and Hindustan Levers Fair & Lovely (which is a 100 crore brand) dominate the market, others like Synergy from LOreal, Swedish company Oriflame and Benkeizer have introduced a wide range of products. Benkeizer first made its appearance two years ago with Jovan Musk. Early last year, it introduced the Coty Vitacare skin range. It has alread garnered a market share of 0.3 per cent compared to Ponds eight per cent, Lakme 14 per cent and Fair & Lovely 38 per cent.
