Delhi excise policy case: ED summons CM Kejriwal for questioning on Nov 2

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in an excise policy-linked money-laundering case on November 2, official sources said on Monday. Kejriwal (55) has been issued the summons under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and according to the sources, the agency will record his statement once he deposes before the investigating officer of the case in Delhi. The ED has mentioned Kejriwal's name multiple times in its chargesheets filed in the case and said the accused were in touch with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader regarding the preparation and execution of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. In a related development, the Supreme Court rejected two separate bail pleas of former deputy chief minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia in corruption and money-laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam and said a transfer of Rs 338 crore was tentatively established in the matter.

DPCC chairman stopped study to ascertain pollution sources in Delhi: Rai

The Delhi government's first-of-its-kind study to determine pollution sources in the national capital has been halted unilaterally on the orders of Delhi Pollution Control Committee Chairman (DPCC) Ashwani Kumar, alleged city Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday. In a press conference, Rai said the Delhi Cabinet had approved the study proposal in July 2021 and signed an MoU with IIT Kanpur in October 2022. "The estimated cost was over Rs 12 crore. The Delhi government had released Rs 10 lakh to IIT Kanpur for the procurement of necessary equipment," he said. The minister claimed that Ashwani Kumar, who took up the role of DPCC chairman in December, made a file note earlier this year, expressing concerns about the "substantial expenses associated with the study". Following several meetings with IIT Kanpur scientists, Kumar issued orders on October 18 to stop the release of the remaining funds to IIT Kanpur, effectively cancelling the study, Rai said. 2-day assembly session is legal: Punjab assembly Speaker Kultar Singh

Punjab assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Friday told the House that the two-day session being held was legal. The assertion came after opposition Congress members sought his ruling in the wake of the governor's observations. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has gone ahead with the session despite the governor's secretariat having said that the October 20-21 session -- being projected as an extension of the Budget Session -- is "bound to be illegal" and any business conducted during it is "unlawful". "If the session is being held it is a legal session. As speaker, this Chair deems the session as legal," Sandhwan informed the House after Congress member Partap Singh Bajwa, who is also the leader of the opposition, sought his ruling in the matter. Noisy scenes were witnessed in the assembly after Congress MLAs questioned the speaker on whether the session was legal. Though Sandhwan asserted that the the two-day session was legal, Congress members continued to raise questio

Delhi govt to launch premium bus aggregator service to encourage people: CM

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced the Delhi government will introduce a premium bus aggregator scheme to encourage the upper middle class to switch to public transport. Addressing a press conference here, he said the scheme will be notified following Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena's approval. "When the metro started in Delhi, there were many people who stopped using scooters and started using the metro. But when the metro trains started getting crowded, they again went back to using their own vehicles. People from the lower middle class and economy classes travel in buses but with this scheme, people from the upper middle class will also opt for public transport," Kejriwal said. Under this scheme, he said, the aggregators who take licenses will have to ply air-conditioned buses with not less than nine seats. "No standing passengers will be allowed and the payment will be made digitally. The aggregators will have to maintain fleets of a minimum of 25 buse

Delhi govt asks depts to ensure time-bound disposal of pending complaints

The Delhi government has asked its departments to ensure time-bound disposal of nearly 25,000 pending complaints, officials said on Thursday. The Administrative Reforms Department (ADR) of the Delhi government has also directed that the complainants must be satisfied with the resolution. The pending complaints totalling 24,550 up to September 2023 are related to four central government agencies and 23 departments of the Delhi government, said a senior official. A larger number of complaints from the public, 1.16 lakh, were disposed of but the feedback received was "unsatisfactory", he said. An overhauled public grievance monitoring system (PGMS) comprising an online portal -- Janta Samvad -- was put in place by the Delhi government in 2015 for receiving and redressing public complaints against various services rendered by its different departments and agencies. The majority of the complaints were related to the Delhi Police, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Jal Board, Transport
