Delhi govt refused aid from Centre fearing credit would go to Modi: Rajnath

The AAP dispensation in Delhi refused central assistance out of fear that the credit would go to the Narendra Modi-led Union government, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh claimed on Sunday. Speaking at an election rally in Rajendra Nagar, the veteran leader said India's economy had grown under the BJP government but Delhi did not benefit from it. "The BJP has not got an opportunity to serve Delhi in a long time Delhi did not get the development it deserves," Singh said. India has been on a path of development under the Modi government. India was the 11th largest economy in 2014. Today, it is the fifth largest, he added. "When India is developing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, why should Delhi be left behind? The city government does not take the Centre's help. We don't discriminate against any state but the (Delhi) chief minister is afraid that Modi ji will get the credit," he said. Attacking former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the defence minister alleged that he did n

60 mn citizens aged 70 and above included under Ayushman Bharat: Nadda

Ayushman Bharat' has brought 6 crore citizens aged 70 and above under it, and the Centre's flagship health insurance programme now covers over 45 per cent of India's population, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said here Saturday. The Union Cabinet in October last year approved health coverage to all citizens aged 70 years and above irrespective of income under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana' (AB PM-JAY). Under Modi 3.0, we have added 6 crore people above 70 under Ayushman Bharat. Now, more than 62 crore people, or over 45 per cent of India's population, are covered, not in health insurance but under a health assurance' scheme with an annual coverage of Rs 5 lakh, he said. Speaking at the 'IIMA Healthcare Summit 2025' organised at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, he called the scheme a game changer and said it has benefited more than 4.2 crore citizens. 7 months after the BJP came to power, Odisha joins Ayushman Bharat scheme

Odisha joined the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme on Monday, seven months after the BJP came to power in the state. The Odisha government's Health and Family Welfare department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Health Authority (NHA) in New Delhi to become the 34th state or Union Territory to implement the health assurance scheme. The pact was signed in presence of Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and several other dignitaries. Though the BJP-led Centre had urged Odisha's previous government to join Ayushman Bharat, the BJD administration rejected the proposal, claiming that its own medical insurance scheme, Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), was better. The saffron party came to power in Odisha in June 2024, defeating the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) which ruled the state for 24 years in a row. The Majhi government has replaced the BSKY with the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya

Ayushman Bharat extended to those above 70; here's list of key initiatives

Boosting the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme by extending coverage to people aged 70 and above and launching of the U-WIN portal to digitise vaccinations of pregnant women and children stood out among the key initiatives of the health ministry in 2024, a year which was free from the Covid shadow. The RG Kar rape-murder case of West Bengal prompted the health ministry to devote considerable attention towards addressing the gaps in medical infrastructure, improving working conditions of healthcare workers and ensuring their security on hospital campuses amid demands from doctors across the country for a central law to deal with violence against healthcare professionals. There was a change at the helm in the health ministry after the elections with Mansukh Mandaviya making way for J P Nadda who took charge for the second time. His previous stint was in the Narendra Modi government's first term (from November 9, 2014 to May 30, 2019) before he took over as the BJP's working ...

AAP more interested in liquor sales than heath of Delhi citizens: Mandaviya

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday slammed the AAP dispensation for not implementing the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme and said it is more interested in liquor sales than the health of Delhi's citizens. The Delhi assembly polls are slated for early next year. The minister's remarks also assume significance as they come a week after the Delhi High Court sought the AAP government's stand on a plea by Delhi's BJP MPs seeking implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). Addressing a press conference here, Mandaviya said it was unfortunate that states like Delhi and West Bengal are not implementing the scheme even after repeated requests by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and letters from the Centre. "There could be political differences but public welfare works must be prioritised in India's federal democratic set up for the welfare of all," he said. "The government of India has written to the Delhi government urging it to implement
