Alchemist properties worth Rs 239 crore attached by ED

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached assets, worth Rs 239.29 crore and bank accounts of Alchemist Infra Realty in an ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).The attached properties are located in Chandigarh, Panchkula, Derabassi and at SAS Nagar in Punjab and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.The directorate, which handles financial crimes, had initiated investigation under provisions of PMLA against Alchemist Infra Realty, its sister companies and directors on the basis of a prosecution complaint filed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at Patiala House court on March 18, 2016.Investigation showed that Alchemist Infra Realty laundered funds through a web of companies. The funds mobilised from investors were never utilised for the purpose they were collected. They were transferred to bank accounts of fictitious companies and used to purchase properties at various locations across in the country.Further investigations .

India Examines Market Access For Agriculture And Allied Products Exports To China

Commerce Secretary, Anup Wadhawan, was on a two-day official visit to Beijing last week. During the visit from 21st to 22nd January 2019, he had bilateral meeting with Zhang Jiwen, Vice Minister of General Administration of China Customs (GACC), for examining market access and quarantine issues for India's agriculture and allied products. During the meeting, Commerce Secretary appreciated GACC for expeditiously addressing long pending agricultural market access issues for Indian products, following the understandings reached on these matters at the Informal Summit in Wuhan last year between President, Xi Jinping and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Quest for knowledge has been fundamental to Indian culture and the country has emerged as an educational hub, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said Monday. Speaking at the alumni award of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Swaraj also said the country has the best of the institutions like IITs, IIMs and NITs that are offering niche courses in biotechnology, solar energy and textile management among others. "There are about 6,000 foreign students studying in India under various scholarships of ICCR and this number is increasing every passing year," she said. Education in India through scholarships of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is a "humble contribution" of the nation to capacity building in other countries, the minister said. "The quest for knowledge has also been a fundamental of Indian culture and civilisation. Chana futures fall 0.47% on muted demand

Chana prices declined 0.47 per cent to Rs 4,196 per quintal in futures trade Monday after participants reduced their exposures amid subdued demand at spot market. Profit-booking at higher levels also weighed on the sentiment. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in March was trading lower by Rs 20, or 0.47 per cent, to Rs 4,196 per quintal with an open interest of 30,470 lots. The April rates also fell by Rs 27, or 0.63 per cent, to Rs 4,225 per quintal with an open interest of 14,010 lots. Marketmen said, trimming of bets by traders on the back of easing demand in physical market against adequate stocks position, mainly led to fall in chana prices.

Karnataka to set up e-NAM in two mandis

Karnataka, the first state to start its own e-trading in agri-commodities, is now ready to set up much advanced online platform e-NAM developed by the Centre, a senior agriculture ministry official said Monday. In 2014-15, online trading in Karnataka's wholesale mandis called Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs) commenced via the Rashtriya e-Market Services (ReMS), a joint venture of the state and NCDEX Spot Exchange. So far, ReMS is operational in 162 mandis in the state. The central government launched the electronic National Agriculture Market (eNAM) -- an initiative to connect APMC mandis across the country and establish one unified electronic spot market -- in April 2016. Trading in 585 mandis is currently taking place on the e-NAM network in 16 states and 2 Union territories (UTs), helping discover price in real time in a transparent manner. India, China hold talks on providing market access to domestic products

India and China have held wide ranging discussions on various issues, including providing market access to domestic products in the neighbouring country, the commerce ministry said Monday. The meeting was held last week in Beijing between Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan and Vice-Minister of General Administration of China Customs (GACC) Zhang Jiwen. Both the countries have signed a protocol for exporting non-basmati rice, fish meal and fish oil to China, it said. GACC has also approved six Indian mills for export of rapeseed meal to China, it added. Both the nations have also inked a protocol to export Indian tobacco leaves to China, which is the largest consumer and producer of tobacco with over 350 million smokers - the world's highest. These developments assume significance as India wants to increase exports to China with a view to bridge the ballooning trade deficit, which has increased to USD 63.12 billion in 2017-18 from USD 51.08 billion in the previous fiscal.

TTK Prestige Q3 profit up 34 pc to Rs 85 cr

Kitchen appliances firm TTK Prestige on Monday reported 33.66 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 84.85 crore for the third quarter ended December 2018. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 63.48 crore in October-December period a year ago, TTK Prestige said in a regulatory filing. Total income during the quarter under review stood at Rs 558.63 crore as compared to Rs 461.62 crore in the year-ago period, it said. Total expenses were at Rs 473.78 crore, up 18.99 per cent as against Rs 398.14 crore earlier. Shares of TTK Prestige were trading 0.92 per cent down at Rs 7,717.95 a piece on BSE.
