Agri-tech start-up WayCool raises Rs 120 cr from LGT Impact, others

Agri-tech start-up WayCool Tuesday said it has raised Rs 120 crore from LGT Impact, prominent angel investors and institutional lenders, including Northern Arc Capital and Caspian. The amount has been raised in combination of equity and debt, it added. WayCool, founded in July 2015 by Karthik Jayaraman and Sanjay Dasari, is a food distribution platform leveraging innovative technology to scale up and operate a complex supply chain. It operates a full-stack, broadline product range across multiple channels and categories such as fresh produce, staples and dairy serving over 4,000 clients. The Chennai-based start-up intends to use the funds to further scale up operations across southern and western India, bolster its technology platform and reinforce its supply chain by building or acquiring assets and capabilities in sourcing, value-added products, and automation of distribution lines, the statement said. Silver futures surge 0.27 pc on global cues

Silver futures surged 0.27 per cent to Rs 36,965 per kg Tuesday after speculators raised bets, driven by a firm trend overseas. Silver for delivery in March traded higher by Rs 105, or 0.27 per cent, at Rs 36,965 per kg in a business turnover of 18,023 lots at the Multi Commodity Exchange. In a similar manner, the white metal to be delivered in May, too, rose by Rs 167, or 0.42 per cent, to Rs 40,223 per kg in 2,230 lots. Analysts said widening of positions by traders in sync with a firm trend on global markets for precious metals, influenced silver prices at futures trade here. In international market, silver traded higher at USD 15.64 an ounce in Singapore Tuesday.

The Nifty 50 index was up 108.85 points or 1.01% at 10,846.45. Gains were triggered on hopes of interest rate cut by RBI after latest data revealed that retail inflation as dropped sharply in December. Positive Asian stocks also boosted sentiment.

TV18 Broadcast reports over Rs 146-cr Q3 net profit

TV18 Broadcast Tuesday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 146.96 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2018. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 8.53 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago. The figures for the current quarter are not comparable with those of the corresponding period consequent to Viacom18 Media and IndiaCast Media Distribution becoming subsidiaries with effect from March 1, 2018, the company said in a regulatory filing. Its revenue from operation during the third quarter of 2018-19 stood at Rs 1,474.7 crore. It was Rs 271.13 crore during the same quarter of the previous fiscal, TV18 Broadcast said. Shares of TV18 Broadcast were trading 1.73 per cent up, at Rs 38.20 apiece on BSE.

Crude oil futures up amid positive global cues

Crude oil prices rose 0.51 per cent to Rs 3,717 per barrel Wednesday, as speculators created fresh positions amid positive global cues. Analysts said raising of bets by participants despite a weak trend overseas, kept crude prices higher at futures trade here. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude for delivery in December was trading higher by Rs 19, or 0.51 per cent, to Rs 3,717 per barrel in a business turnover of 3,694 lots. Meanwhile, the West Texas Intermediate gained 1.45 per cent, to USD 51.23, while Brent crude, the international benchmark, recovered 1.46 per cent to USD 59.85 per barrel.

Gold futures up Rs 45 as participants create position

Gold prices rose by Rs 45 to Rs 32,186 per 10 gram in futures trade Tuesday as speculators widened their bets tracking a firm trend overseas. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in February was trading higher by Rs 45, or 0.14 per cent, at Rs 32,186 per 10 gram with a business turnover of 12,305 lots. Similarly, the April rate of the precious metal was up by Rs 20, or 0.06 per cent, at Rs 32,290 per 10 gram with a business volume of 7,175 lots. Analysts said raising of bets by participants, taking positive cues from global market as weakness in dollar raised demand for the precious metal as a safe haven, mainly pushed up gold prices at futures trade here. Globally, gold rose 0.09 per cent to trade at USD 1,290.31 an ounce in Singapore.
