Asia300 Forum Gathers Asian Business and Political Leaders in SW China

Rupee rises 6 paise against US dollar on foreign fund inflows

Rising for the second straight session, the rupee Tuesday inched up 6 paise to 69.80 against the US dollar on fresh foreign funds inflows amid exit poll predictions of a clear majority for the NDA. Besides, a positive start of the equity markets also supported the rupee, forex dealers said. However, a strong US dollar against major global currencies and rising crude prices capped gains of the domestic unit, they added. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the domestic unit opened slightly down at 69.75 against the dollar, then it rose to quote at 69.80, up 6 paise over its previous close in early trade. The rupee had appreciated 49 paise to 69.74 against the US dollar in the previous session. Most exit polls forecast another term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The results of the seven-phase polls will come out Thursday. The BSE Sensex was trading 205.24 points, or 0.52 per cent, higher at 39,557.91 in early trade. Sensex rises over 200 pts to hit record high in early trade

The benchmark BSE Sensex jumped over 200 points to hit a record intra-day high of 39,565.82 as investors' euphoria over exit poll outcome continued in early session on Tuesday. The 30-share index was trading 205.24 points, or 0.52 per cent, higher at 39,557.91. In similar movement, the broader NSE Nifty rose 48.90 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 11,877.15. In the previous session, the Sensex ended 1,421.90 points, or 3.75 per cent, higher at 39,352.67, and the Nifty soared 421.10 points, or 3.69 per cent, to 11,828.25. Top gainers in the Sensex pack in morning trade include HDFC twins, Bajaj Finance, Coal India, RIL, Bajaj Auto, HUL, IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, Vedanta, Axis Bank and Asian Paints, rising up to 2.21 per cent. On the other hand, Tata Motors, Yes Bank, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, SBI, Infosys, ONGC and TCS fell up to 3.18 per cent. "Market has given a thumbs-up to exit poll numbers. United Breweries Q4 net profit falls 25.26 pc to Rs 67.92 crore

United Breweries Ltd (UBL) Tuesday reported 25.26 per cent fall in its standalone net profit of Rs 67.92 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2019. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 90.88 crore in the January-March period a year-ago. Its total income during the quarter under review was up 5.84 per cent to Rs 3,469.3 crore as against Rs 3,277.85 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, UBL said in a regulatory filing. UBL's total expenses during the period stood at Rs 3,363.13 crore, up 7.07 per cent as against Rs 3,141.03 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago. The company in a statement said, in the fourth quarter, volume grew in all markets except West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. "UBL's growth continues to lead the industry, strengthening its market position. Good performance generated healthy operating cash flows, which along with better working capital management helped internal funding of Rs 430 crore investments in the business," ..
