Malaysia reported 5,624 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Saturday, bringing the total tally to 4,427,067.Among the new infections were 17 imported cases and 5,607 local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.A further nine deaths have been reported from the pandemic in the Southeast Asian country, bringing the death toll to 35,491.The ministry also reported 10,041 new recoveries, bringing the total number of COVID-19 patients cured and discharged to 4,310,599.Currently, there are 80,977 active cases recorded in the country, with 89 of them held in intensive care and 57 of them in need of assisted breathing.The country reported that 73,767 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered on Saturday, and that 84.8 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 81.2 percent are fully vaccinated and 49 percent have received booster jabs.
The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 1,566 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 1,401 were in Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission's report Sunday.

A total of 18,214 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined to 6.60 crore, the bulletin said.
Delhi reported 1,094 fresh COVID-19 infections and two deaths due to the disease on Saturday as the positivity rate rose to 4.82 per cent, according to data shared by the health department. A total of 22,614 Covid tests were conducted in the city a day ago, the data showed. The COVID-19 infection tally in the national capital now stands at 18,73,793 and the death toll at 26,166. Delhi had logged 1,042 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 4.64 per cent and two fatalities due to the infection on Friday. On Thursday, the city reported 965 COVID-19 cases and a single fatality with a positivity rate of 4.71 per cent. Mumbai on Saturday reported 72 COVID-19 cases, a slight rise in the daily addition after a fall for two consecutive days, a civic official said. The metropolis had reported 68 cases on Friday, a sizable dip from 98 on Wednesday, which was the highest for April so far, and 91 on Thursday, he pointed out. The tally in Mumbai stood at 10,59,213, while the death toll remained unchanged at 19,562, he said.
