Five shops were gutted in a fire at a market in southwest Delhi's Vasant Vihar area early Saturday, officials said. No one was injured in the incident, they said. The call about the blaze was received at 5 am and 10 fire tenders were pressed into service, according to an official of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). It was brought under control within an hour. The fire started in the ground floor of a building in Vasant Vihar's C Block Market and then spread to its mezzanine and first floors, the official said. It seems that a short circuit started the fire, officials said.
A major fire broke out in the Chandni Chowk area of north Delhi on Thursday and spread to several shops, gutting goods and property worth crores of rupees, officials said. Three workers died and six others were injured after a fire broke out and caused a blast in a food processing unit in the early hours of Saturday in the Narela Industrial Area here , the Delhi Police said. They said they received a distress call at 3.35 am about the fire in the Shayam Kripa Foods Private Ltd that processes dry moong dal. There are no reports of anyone being injured so far, a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said. Police said it is suspected that a short circuit on the ground floor of the two-storey building caused the fire. The call regarding the fire at Eye7 Chaudhary Eye Centre was received at 11.30 am and 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Later, four more were pressed into service. Fire-related calls surged to 180 on Wednesday recording a nearly three-fold rise over the single-day calls received by the Delhi Fire Service, with officials attributing the increase to heatwave conditions prevailing in the national capital. Three major fire incidents took place at different parts of the city, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials said on Friday. No information regarding any injury was reported till late evening, the officials said. "A big fire broke out in a factory in Kirti Nagar area of west Delhi. We received call regarding the fire at 3.37 pm from the Kirti Nagar industrial area. A total of 25 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. No injuries was reported," DFS chief Atul Garg said. Garg said that another similar incident was reported at a factory in the Bawana industrial area in outer Delhi and 15 fire tenders were pressed into service. "No injuries was reported from the Bawana area. We had received a call at 5.05 pm," the DFS chief said. He said another blaze broke out at a banquet hall near Kalkaji Metro Station in south Delhi. At least seven people were injured following a blast and a massive fire in a chemical factory in Delhi's Bawana area on Sunday, police said. Days after 11 people died in a fire at a paint factory here, two persons, including the factory owner's son, were arrested in connection with the incident on Saturday, police said. The accused have been identified as Akhil Jain (37), the son of factory owner Ashok Jain, who died in the fire, and Rajrani, who owns the land on which the factory was situated, they said. Besides Ashok Jain, 10 workers died in the fire that broke out in the factory in outer Delhi's Alipur area on the evening of February 15. A major fire broke out in a pathology laboratory in north Delhi's Rohini late last night, the fire department said on Monday. No one was reported injured. Officials said that the fire broke out on the third and fourth floor of a building which housed the pathology lab. The fire was reported to the department around 12.45 am. "Total 10 fire engines were rushed to the spot immediately. It took more than two hours to douse the flames completely. The fire was near the lift shaft. Delhi Police on Tuesday evening received a call about a blast near the Israel embassy located in the New Delhi district but no explosive has been found yet, officials said. These calls were recorded between 6 pm and 10.45 pm on Sunday, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) chief Atul Garg said. "The total number of small, medium and major fire-related incident calls is 100 from 6 pm to 10.45 pm," he said, adding that his department was prepared to help. Officials said the Delhi Police was also on alert and helping fire personnel. The firecracker ban was violated in several areas of Delhi as the city celebrated Diwali. Sixteen people, including six children, were rescued after a fire broke out in a flat in central Delhi's Subzi Mandi area on Sunday, the Delhi Fire Service officials said. A call was received at around 7:40 am about the blaze on the second floor of a building and eight fire engines were pressed into service. "The concerned police station was informed as well. We have rescued 16 people, including six children, seven women and three men," said an official. The rescue operation was challenging as an LPG gas cylinder exploded inside the flat, he added. A fire broke out at a garment warehouse in south Delhi on Saturday morning, officials said. Information regarding the fire in the warehouse, located on the terrace of a building in South Extension Part-1 here, was received at 5.25 am, they added. Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused around 9 am, the officials said, adding that no injuries were reported. The clothes stored in the warehouse got burnt in the blaze, the officials said. The building where the fire broke out comprises a basement, two floors and a terrace, they added.
