A 65-year-old man was killed after a fire broke out in a Kammanavolu village of Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district.The incident took place late night on Wednesday. At least nine shanties were also gutted in the fire."At around 1.30 AM late last night, nine houses are totally burnt due to current short circuit. As the smoke spread heavily, one aged person could not come out. Bodies of six Air Force personnel, who died in the AN-32 aircraft crash, have been airlifted from the site of the accident in the Pari mountain range to Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, a senior official said. The team, which had been searching for plane wreckage and remains of those on board the Russian-made aircraft, on Wednesday, retrieved the six bodies along with the mortal remains of seven others from the crash site near Siang district. According to Siang deputy commissioner Rajiv Takuk, the bodies were airlifted to Aalo on Wednesday around 5pm, while the process to bring the remains of seven others was still underway. "The six bodies will be likely taken to IAF airbase at Jorhat in Assam on Thursday," Takuk said, adding that lack of network in the mountains made communication difficult from the crash site. Last week, the IAF had announced that cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder - commonly known as the black box - have been recovered from the crash .

At least seven children were feared drowned and 22 others persons rescued after a pick-up van in which they were travelling plunged into the Indira canal near here, district officials said Thursday. The van carrying 29 people fell into the canal in Nagram area on the city's outskrits during wee hours of Thursday, Lucknow District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said. The passengers were returning from a marriage ceremony in neighbouring Barabanki district. Five people were killed and 42 others injured when a van carrying members of a marriage party collided with another four-wheeler in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said Thursday. The accident took place near Pandemurga village on Wednesday night when the victims were returning to Bijapur after attending a wedding in the neighbouring Dantewada district, a local police official said. Around 50 people from Tidodi village in Bijapur were in the van when another goods carrying vehicle coming from the opposite direction collided with it, he said. Four occupants of the van died on the spot while 43 others were injured and rushed to different hospitals nearby, he said. One of the injured persons succumbed while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dantewada, the official said. The first quake occurred around 7.47 am and the second one was experienced at 8.27 am in Satara district, located around 120 km from Pune, an official at the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) centre here said. A man survived miraculously after he fell on the track while trying to board a moving train at the Jharsuguda railway station here on Tuesday.The passenger, identified as Rajesh Talwar, was reportedly travelling from Hawra to Sambalpur when the incident occurred.Talwar stepped off the train which halted at the Jharsuguda railway station to get a cup of tea. As the train started to move, Talwar attempting to board, slipped through the gap between the platform and the train and fell on the track.In a video of the incident that has gone viral on the Internet, Talwar is seen being dragged for a few meters after he fell on the tracks.The train was halted immediately and security personnel deployed at the station rushed to rescue him.Later, Talwar boarded the same train which left for its destination.

Four persons were killed and another was injured Wednesday when a truck they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district, police said. The incident occurred in the evening at Jhiram valley under Darbha police station area, a local police official said. The truck was transporting cement to Jagdalpur from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh with five people onboard, he said. Prima facie, the driver lost control over the vehicle due to failure of brakes, following which it rolled down into the 25-feet-deep gorge, the official said. While four persons were crushed to death as they got trapped under the truck, the driver sustained serious injuries, he said, adding that it took around two hours for police to extricate bodies from the wreckage.
A fire broke out on the third floor of a residential building in Lake Town area here on Wednesday, a fire brigade official said. There was no report of any casualty. Eight fire tenders, which were pressed into service, brought the situation under control in four hours.
