Rajasthan medical college implements dress code , Health ministry slams it

Resident doctors, medical staff and undergraduate students of Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Medical College will now be required to follow a blue dress code, including donning blazers worth Rs 3000 of the same colour.The medical college Friday implemented the dress code, which is also applicable to those serving in the hospitals attached to the college.Staff and doctors have to wear blue blazers worth Rs 3000 of the brand "Raymond". The college management has also issued a list of stores where orders for clothes can be placed.Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma said that there was no need for taking such measures and the matter is under consideration."There was no use of taking such a decision, it is a local matter. Deworwing day in Delhi schools on Feb 8

To tackle the threat of intestinal worm infections in children, the Delhi government has directed schools in the national capital to conduct deworming programme on February 8. The initiative is part of the school-based biannual National Mass Deworming programme. "All school going children from Nursery to class 12 will be administered a single dose of chewable tablet named 'Albendazole'," the Directorate of Education (DoE) said in a communication to school principals Schools will have to nominate a nodal teacher for execution of the programme, it said. "Albendazole tablet is as such a safe drug, however, in very rare cases children with mild adverse event, including pain abdomen, nausea and vomiting, may require medical intervention," it added. While the first phase of the deworming programme will be conducted on February 8, another drive will be conducted on February 14 for left out children.

One student killed, four injured in wall collapse at school

A 13-year-old student died on the spot, while four others were injured when a wall of their school building collapsed near here Friday afternoon, police said. The school is located at village Ashti in Bhatkuli tehsil of this district in eastern Maharashtra, they said. The deceased was identified as Vaibhav Gawande, a Class 8 student of Manibai Chhaganlal Desai Vidyalaya, the police said, adding the injured pupils were rushed to the district general hospital here for treatment. According to the police, the school building is in a dilapidated condition and one of its walls suddenly caved in at around 1 pm. Five students were trapped under the debris of which one died on the spot, they said.

DU teachers protest over regularisation of ad-hoc teachers

Delhi University teachers held a protest march from the Ramlila Ground to Parliament Street on Thursday, demanding the absorption of ad-hoc teachers in the varsity. The protesters marched till Jantar Mantar, where they were stopped by the police and later detained. "The Supreme Court (had) in July set down a 200-point roster and we are agitating for its restoration. HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar had said that they will file a special litigation plea (SLP). IIT Hyderabad to launch B-Tech in Artificial Intelligence

A full-fledged B-Tech programme in Artificial Intelligence would be introduced by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, from the coming academic year. Admission to the course with an intake of around 20 students would be through the JEE-Advanced, a release said here. IIT Hyderabad has become the first Indian Educational Institution to offer such a course in AI. The mission of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, IIT Hyderabad, is to produce students with a sound understanding of the fundamentals of theory and practice of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, it said. Calcutta University to shift science campus to New Town: VC

Calcutta University has taken the decision for shifting its science campus to New Town in future, Vice-Chancellor Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee said Thursday. "We have decided all the science and technology subjects will be taught in the New Town campus once the buildings at New Town come up in future," Chakraborty told reporters on the sidelines of a university outreach programme for children in a nearby slum here. She said the detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed new facilities are being prepared and the foundation of the building and boundary wall of the new town campus on 5 acres of land, have already been constructed. Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar Thursday said the IITs, IISERs and universities in the country will mentor schools located close their campuses to ensure that students do not lag behind in mathematics and science subjects. Govt will set up 462 more Eklavya Model Residential Schools: Oram

The government would set up 462 more Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram said here Wednesday. "Going forward, after Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, if there is any big education system of the central government, it is going to be Eklavya Model Residential School," he said while speaking at the valedictory function of the first EMRS National Games and Sports Meet here. DU's AC passes provision to have 10 pc of permanent posts as contractual appointments

The Delhi University's Academic Council Wednesday passed a provision to have 10 per cent of permanent positions as contractual appointments, which was met with opposition by some members, sources said. According to sources, the Delhi University's Academic Council, in its meeting held Wednesday, passed an amendment to an ordinance pertaining to contractual appointments. Around 25 members entered the well of the house saying it was passed without adequate discussion. "The original ordinance had provisions for appointments of permanent, temporary and ad hoc, but now the varsity has brought a provision for contractual appointments which was not even discussed," one of the members said. School girl jumps off building, dies

A 16-year-old girl on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a five-storey building in the city's Burtala area, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said. "The incident happened at around 6 pm. We have found a suicide note which she was holding on to. It seems she was going through mental stress due to academic pressure," the officer said. The girl, a student of Class 10, used to regularly visit the building for private tuitions, he said. Her body has been sent for post-mortem and a probe is on, police said.
