Doug Jones was offered cameo in 'Hellboy' reboot

Doug Jones has said that he was offered a cameo in the reboot of "Hellboy" but he was unable to take on the project due to scheduling conflicts. Jones, who played the amphibious Abe Sapien in Guillermo Del Toro's two Hellboy films, said he was "deeply immersed" in "Star Trek: Discovery" to take on the new feature. "There was a chance that a cameo might have happened, but not as things progressed. "Reboot means recasting, and I'm told this first reboot does not have anybody in it from the original film. I received an offer to do a cameo, but I was deeply immersed in 'Star Trek: Discovery' when that offer came in, so I couldn't do it," he told The Hollywood Reporter. Jones currently plays the alien Lt Saru on "Discovery". Ron Perlman played Hellboy in the original films in 2004 and 2008. 'Firefly Lane' series in the works at Netflix

Netflix has ordered a series based on bestseller "Firefly Lane" from author Kristin Hannah. The streaming giant has picked up the book adaptation of the same name for a 10-episode series, which will track the friendship between two women over the course of 30 years. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Maggie Friedman is attached as writer, showrunner and executive producer alongside Stephanie Germain. Hannah is a co-executive producer. 'Firefly Lane' follows Kate and Tully, who meet as young girls and become inseparable best friends throughout 30 years of ups and downs, successes and failures, depression and disappointments. When an unthinkable betrayal breaks them apart the two women go their separate ways, and it is unclear whether they will ever be able to reconcile. This is Hannah's third novel with an adaptation in production. Her books "The Nightingale" and "The Great Alone" are both in production at Sony's TriStar Pictures.

Annette Bening describes her 'Captain Marvel' character as 'God-like entity'

Annette Bening has remained secretive about her "Captain Marvel" character till now and the Hollywood veteran has revealed that she plays the leader of Kree people, called The Supreme Intelligence. The Brie Larson-fronted first female Marvel standalone film marks the four-time Oscar nominee's first appearance in a superhero movie. In the trailer of the movie, Bening's character can be seen explaining Captain Marvel/ Carol Danvers how they saved her and gave her a new life. Yorgos Lanthimos' next a crime drama

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos is set to direct crime drama titled "Pop 1280", based on 1964 Jim Thompson crime novel of the same name. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story follows a corrupt sheriff in a small town that has to manipulate his way into winning another election in order to maintain the careful balance of criminality. Andrew Lowe and Ed Guiney of Element Pictures, Lanthimos, Ryan Friedkin of Imperative Entertainment and John Alan Simon of Discovery Productions will back the project. Lanthimos' latest "The Favourite", starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, is vying for 10 Oscars, including best director and best picture.

Celine Dion biopic in the works

A biopic on the life of iconic singer Celine Dion is in the works. Titled "Celine Before Celine, the film will be helmed by Quebec-based director Marc-Andre Lavoie, who will trace Dion's journey before global stardom. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the English-language biopic is set for a 2020 production. Dion's nephew Jimmy has signed on as a screenwriter. Lavoie will reunite with producer Adrien Bodson after they co-wrote the 2017 Quebec comedy "Innocent". "In my entire career, I've never met someone as kind, warm and authentic as Celine, and we'll be forever grateful that she believes so strongly in our team to tell the real story has it's never been told before," Lavoie said in a statement. The "I'm Alive" singer, in a letter to the director and Bodson, said she was "touched" by the film the duo were preparing. 'Black Widow' film won't be R-rated: Marvel head Kevin Feige

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that the "Black Widow" standalone film will not be rated 'R'. The studio head quashed the rumours surrounding the movie's rating saying the film, to be fronted by Scarlett Johansson, was never considered for a rating above PG-13. "It never was going to be (R-rated). "Somebody writes, 'I hear it's R-rated!' And then everybody writes it up," Feige told ComicBook.com. When asked if this could be considered as him officially dismissing the rumour, he responded, "Yes. Correct." The highly anticipated film will star Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, an agent of the fictional spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D and a member of the superhero team, the Avengers. Reba McEntire turned down iconic 'Titanic' role

Veteran country singer Reba McEntire has revealed she was initially cast as the "unsinkable" Molly Brown in James Cameron's classic "Titanic". During an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen", McEntire said she could not do the film due to scheduling conflicts. "We were on tour and I had a lot of people on the payroll. We had these three months already scheduled to do the movie, and then they got behind on scheduling and said 'We'll have to move it to this time.' "So we couldn't reschedule all the arenas and everything," McEntire, 63, told Cohen of the planned shoot, which eventually began in July 1996. The role eventually went to Oscar winner Kathy Bates. The movie, featuring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead, became a worldwide blockbuster, earning over USD 2 billion at the box office and winning 11 Oscars, including best picture and best director. Ryan Murphy announces new Netflix series 'Hollywood'

Ryan Murphy has revealed the name of his next Netflix series as "Hollywood". The "American Horror Story" creator shared the news on Instagram on Saturday. "'Hollywood' my new Netflix show co-created with Ian Brennan begins principal photography this summer. "A love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown, this straight-to-series production will be my third show for Netflix and I couldn't be more excited or proud about the work we are doing together," Murphy wrote. The project has received a straight-to-series order at the streamer. The plot details are being kept under wraps. Murphy previously set up shows "Ratched", starring Sarah Paulson, and "The Politician", starring Ben Platt, at Netflix.

Tessa Thompson, Nnamdi Asomugha to star in 'Sylvie'

Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha are set to feature in a love story, titled "Sylvie". According to Hollywood Reporter, the film is set in '50s and '60s New York City follows Sylvie (Thompson) as she meets aspiring saxophonist Robert (Asomugha) when he takes a job at her father's record store in Harlem. After a summer romance that comes to an end, the two fatefully reconnect several years later and find that their feelings for each other never disappeared. Eugene Ashe will direct the film from his own script. Thompson will also executive produce the jazz era romance drama, while Asomugha is attached as producer through his iAm21 Entertainment banner. Luke Wilson joins 'Zombieland' sequel cast

Luke Wilson is the latest addition to the ensemble cast of "Zombieland" sequel. The film also features Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, reported Variety. Zoey Deutch, Thomas Middleditch, and Rosario Dawson are also part of the cast. Original "Zombieland" filmmaker Ruben Fleischer is returning to direct the follow-up. In the sequel, the zombie slayers must face off against new kinds of living dead that have evolved since the first movie, as well as new human survivors. They have to also deal with the growing pains of their own makeshift family. The film is currently in production and will be released in October, on the 10th anniversary of the first movie.
